Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has declared a state of emergency. The National Guard has been called to assist in the rescue any remaining stranded motorists.
"We must do everything we can to keep motorists safe during this massive winter storm. Illinois Department of Transportation crews are working non-stop to clear roadways, and the Illinois Sate Police will also be closely monitoring our highways," said Quinn.
Chicago Breaking News reported hundreds of people were rescued from North Lake Shore Drive, but the crisis is far from over.
911 is still receiving phone calls from people all over the city, who are stranded at various locations, including Lake Shore Drive.
Governors of Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin have all declared states of emergency.
As of 2:23 a.m., there are an estimated 70 cars stuck on Lake Shore Drive, said police.

I'm sorry, but the MORE I think about this, the more I think the people who CHOSE to ignore the warnings ALSO need to own their part in the mess on LSD. For days, we were being told to STAY HOME, NOT to DRIVE and to avoid LSD because of the waves that were expected. Did they listen? Hell NO! You would think their cars are super clued to their asses. They could have taken the CTA. Buses HAD to be out, but all these people stuck on LSD preventing the CDOT from plowing and salting contributed to their own fate. This just really pisses me off. This so did not have to happen. People NEVER learn. All the modern Technology and it still makes people stupid. What did they think, the weather reports were bogus? Now, for those same people to blame the city, the CDOT, the first responders, well, take a look in the mirror.
ReplyDelete"On Tuesday, Mayor Richard Daley had cautioned Chicago residents to travel only if necessary"...Guess 500 hundred cars stuck on LSD thought it was NECESSARY?
ReplyDeleteI think people are too depended on others to make good decisions for them.
ReplyDeleteA lot people felt that since LSD was open, it was safe. Even though the weather advisories had suggested people stay off the roads and inside their homes. Very sad.
towanda & Timothy, I agree with your comments. :)
ReplyDeleteLSD is never open or safe. :) LOL

What about pedestrians? At some point, motorists are pedestrians too.
