VIDEO: Laid off Chicago Public School teacher breaks down, cries, 'they ruin more lives'

In 2008, Ann Cotter, a former Chicago Public School teacher, was laid off due to "anticipated low enrollment". Today, Cotter is facing foreclosure.

During a February 3, 2012 interview, Cotter broke down and cried as she explained how she went from middle class to a life of financial uncertainty.

"I had 11 interviews between 2008 and 2009, but never got hired for any position," said Cotter. "I have a Masters in reading and learning disabilities."

In 2011, Cotter's status as a cadre was terminated and she was downgraded to a "day-to-day" substitute teacher.

"I'd like to think the Chicago Public Schools and Alicia Winckler for... having me go in 2009 from middle class to below poverty," said the frustrated former school teacher.

"I am this far away from foreclosure... after being at my home for 26 years, 'cause I can't make my mortgage payments. And they don't care. They ruin more lives. I was a good teacher," said Cotter through her tears.

According to a bio published on the Chicago Public School's website, before she became the Chief Talent Officer for CPS, Winckler used to work for Sears and Coca-Cola; which would be fantastic if CPS' goal is to turn out durable mattresses and tasty soft drinks.

  1. That gross spit on her lips may be why she doesn't interview well.

  2. Since the Teachers' Union gives so much money to Democrats, maybe Rahm Emmanuel or President Obama can help her.

  3. I bet she has a FUPA that could swallow a child whole.

  4. I don't want her anywhere near my kids...she is literally frothing at the mouth.

  5. Could it be that she's White? What's the black/non-black ratio of CPS employees? Similar to the CTA?

Guess what, mama? There are attorneys, engineers, cashiers, architects, waiters, and every other color of the rainbow out of work and in foreclosure, too. Just because you teach special children does not entitle you to special treatment during a recession.

  8. Only 11 interviews? She needs to try harder. Its not fair but its the way things are...

  9. Yesterday at 4:07 pm - you put it perfectly! Why is she so special that she can't lose her job.

And today at 5:09 has it right too, only 11 interviews? I was out of work for maybe 4 months last year, and interviewed at, at least 25 companies.

She's either lazy, incompetent, or both.

  10. Regarding the number of times she interviewed:
Teachers who are listed as cadre subs WERE only allotted 1 day a week (usually Fridays) in which they could do interviews. In other words, if a principal offered them an interview on a Tuesday, they had to choose between loosing their cadre status, and going on an interview that potentially hundreds of other cadres were interviewing for the same position.
Last year, the 1 interview day/week was taken away, therefore ANY interviews for a permanent position lead CPS teachers to forfeit their cadre status.

  11. The lady hasn't worked in 4 years. She could teach at private schools, parochial schools, camps, tutor, teach in private citizens homes, or work in a different field.

Or she could be a whiny loser like she is, and lean on excuses, today at 11:10 am, and continue to suck.

    Those who can, do.
    Those who can't, teach.
Those who can't do either, teach gym or special needs kids. This lady is one of those.

  12. A master's in reading?

You have got to be kidding me. Reading?!?! No wonder she hasn't worked in years.

Work at Subway and be a sandwich artists, for chrissakes. Or just tutor for cash & collect unemployment. If you really teach special needs kids, I'm sure there are thousands of parents of those kids in the area that would pay you good money to babysit them at home (since your degrees in "learning diabilities" & "reading" really mean that you just babywat the$ at work, too).
