Man robbed at gunpoint on CTA Red Line train

A male CTA passenger was robbed at gunpoint on a North Side, CTA Red Line train, said police.

The armed robbery was reported Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at 12:09 p.m.

It’s unclear where the train was when the incident occurred, but the offenders got off the train at the Sheridan “L” stop at 3940 North Sheridan Road, and the victim exited the train at the Uptown Wilson train station at 4620 North Broadway.

The thieves were described as two male blacks in their 20s, wearing blue jeans.

Investigators said the robbers were armed with a small caliber, derringer-style handgun.

More than a thousand dollars was stolen from the victim, said police.

At 12:39 p.m., CTA officials were reviewing security cameras for more details.

  1. Who carry's around that amount of cash in this day & age? Day and night, innocent victims fall prey to these ghetto thugs and the "L" is the perfect place to commit those crimes for these criminals because passengers are sitting ducks. Do yourself a favor and take the bus. Add some travel time and keep yourself safe. They don't refer to the "L" as the ghetto express because it's a safe ride and don't depend on the CTA to provide security. Never gonna happen.

  4. CNR, you mean the "alleged" robbery. If you're going to pretend you're a journalist, at least write like one. I suggest you take another look at the SPJ Code of Ethics while you're at it.

  5. Phoebe, if you want the news from the Tribune or Sun-Times' perspective, you are in the wrong place.

I don't tell you how to run your blog, and you have no right to tell me how to run mine.

As far the SPJ Code of Ethics goes, my "journalistic compassion" is reserved for the victims and the dedicated police officers who actually put their lives on the line trying to protect us from scum-sucking, social-vampires in human form.

I am going to continue to let people speak their minds in the comments section. I detest weak bloggers who are not strong enough to get out of the way and simply let the conversation flow.

I don't agree with a lot of the things that are said here, but I sure as hell will defend their rights to say it.

By the way, if you had left your snotty comments on one of those more politically correct blogs, your remarks would be deleted.

  6. PhoebeK10,
How can reporting a crime/theft be "alleged"? The guy was robbed, period! He wasn't "allegedly" robbed, which could imply he lied.

    Good for you Timothy:)
