Downtown: Chicago cops outnumbered by black mobs of nearly 200

Saturday, Chicago police officers were kept busy trying to control huge crowds of unruly, young African Americans in the city's increasingly violent downtown area.

Separate groups, of nearly two hundred people, were responsible for numerous disturbances and at least one robbery in the area.

At 7:48 p.m., 20 to 30 black males were spotted congregating at Water Tower Park, 180 East Pearson Street, said police.

The group was last seen headed toward the Water Tower Place.

About an hour later, a gang of 50 to 60 young black youths were moving westbound on East Chicago Avenue from North Michigan Avenue.

The mob was last seen entering the CTA Red Line subway at Chicago and State.

At 8:47 p.m., a street fight erupted at East Randolph Street and North Garland Court.

An estimated 15 people were involved in the brawl, said police.

Less than two minutes later, at 46 East Superior Street, two black females snatched a woman's Blackberry from a table and fled the scene in a silver, 2008 Honda registered to an address on the 7100 block of South Vernon Avenue, according to police dispatch reports.

While cops were investigating the robbery at 46 East Superior, about a block west of that location, another mob of 20 to 30 young black youths were clogging the intersection of North State and East Superior Streets.

At 9:01 p.m., a gang of 40 to 50 African Americans flooded the CTA, Grand, Red Line subway station at 521 North State Street.

About 10 minutes later, a passenger aboard a Red Line train at that location hit an emergency button - bringing the train to a standstill.

At 9:19 p.m., an anonymous 911 caller reported a mob of black teens walking along East Pearson Street, between North Dewitt Place and North Lake Shore Drive.

According to the complainant, the mob chose that street because it is poorly lit.

A large group of black males were accused of hurling racial slurs, presumably at white passersby, at North Lake Shore Drive and East Chestnut Street, around 9:49 p.m.
