  1. It's starting to. They are moving the mental health patients out of Uptown and moving them into my part of Rogers Park. They are gross, they walk around all day looking for cigarette butts to smoke, they hang out at the bus stop acting out, etc.

Before all the black welfare recipients moved into to town Uptown was a decent place to live. Now it's a complete hellhole! Shame.

Republicans fought to end slavery, fought for civil rights and for desegregation, but you probably voted for your democrat Obama cuz he's black!

Whites are Meth Heads? You ignorant MORON! You deserve to live in your hoods and you will always live there with your Ignorant attitude, especially since the Old Democrat Party of the South keeps you in slavery by giving you your welfare checks! 4. One way to spot the Section 8 people is that they loiter around constantly, usually in front. One guy I know lives in a medium high-rise that has a relatively small percentage of the residents that have their housing costs subsidized. They are all black while everyone else in the building pays full rent and are white or Asian. The lobby always has these welfare people and their friends hanging around in the lobby watching people come and go which gives it a low class ghetto vibe. They always have a stream of visitors as none of them seem to have anything else to do. The police come to the building looking for people quite often. He sees young healthy looking guys driving cars with handicap placards and wonders how they manage to finagle that. There have been burglaries within the building. Section 8 people usually display behavioral problems in any setting. Who wants to pay full fare for their housing and have their living experience degraded by the subsidized folks? Why bother working when others get the same thing,or better, for free? Since section 8 has had a waiting list only those with a commitment to being on welfare as a career, which results in the bottom of the barrel types cashing in. Nobody needs them around, they only detract from wherever they're at.

  5. As far as I'm concerned, there should be a one-year max on any government handouts and recipients should be drug tested and have to comply with rules to get it, like showing proof of applying for jobs. Given that this is my money, and all of yours too, we have every right to put some limitations on what we are doling out. I'm willing to help, but I am not willing to give some lazy crackhead a free ride while I work my ass off. Enough is enough.

    1. the TANF program does have a two-year cut off limit, and all of the money must be paid back child support withholdings or taken from your tax returns. 40 hours per week job searching activities must be logged in order to receive benefits. you have three strikes and then you are out. it is honestly easier to find a job then jump through their hoops for the 400 a month you receive. as far as section 8 goes it was designed for people with children who work minimum wage jobs. usually a single mother trying to put herself through school to do better for her child. it is sad to see that the system is being abused but the people that it was put in place for should not be judged... just because a lot of the people you see on section 8 are doing things they shouldn't it doesn't mean that everyone is abusing the system.

  6. And if any of these recipients are disabled due to mental illness, they should only get assistance when they show up at a clinic to get medication. Don't take their meds, no money for them. And if they're just straight-up disabled, they should only be getting assistance if they truly cannot do any work at all - I'm talking paraplegic, and I'd argue even they could find some type of job that only requires voice, like being a customer service rep. Very few people are actually so incapacitated that they canot earn any income; people are just lazy and don't want to work for things. It's out of control.

    1. Sooo sad. I'm Black and I have seen this happen over and over again. My childhood neighborhood was very nice. Then it eventually it too turned ghetto. Now it's so much crime and grime, it looks like a war zone. My neighborhood as an adult is becoming the same. The working class blacks move in. The whites move out. Eventually, the ghetto blacks get in (mostly through section 8), then the trash, the noise, the violence is so bad. We can't even set out on the porch. Why! If the majority of the ghetto blacks purposely want to live that lifestyle, then the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer. This is done purposely to make our home values decrease so that can be bought for cheap. So our youth will be utterly destroyed. We try to help, but we need to move again. I can't change my color (and I don't want to), but I do want to change my address. So many of us work hard, go to school, college, then get trapped in the ghetto. We can't get help because we make too much. We can't sell our homes at a profit because the neighborhood value has plunged. However, the loud, dirty, belligerent ghetto blacks and whites get all the help they need. They know how to work the system. We are like sheep living among vicious wolves. They taunt, throw trash on the ground, they're loud. I talk to them. I'm nice to them, but you have to show yourself strong around them. If not, you are toast. Eagles shouldn't live with vulgers. We should help the children, but make those parents work and clean their properties.
This is shameful. Our parents, the Civil Rights Movement, should not be in vane

  11. Can building owners deny residence to Section 8 renters or is there a law mandating otherwise? If there isn't a law requiring them to let sec. 8 in, we should start posting pics of the owners online next to pictures of the trash they let in.

If you were to discriminate purely based on section 8 status, it technically wouldn't be racial discrimination, since the decision is based on their economic status. So, I dont see why it should be illegal. However, since most section 8 people are black, it will effect them disproportionately. That begs the question, why is 1 minority group receiving the majority of benefits from this program? Is the agency that hands out section 8 vouchers practicing racial discrimination towards non-black applicants???

  17. Why isn't anyone placing blame on landlords of the Section 8 tenants? I am constantly reporting these management companies in my neighborhood (who by the way are all based in Northbrook) for failing to inspect their buildings, screen their tenants or give a damn about the properties that they bought up and have probably never even been to.

I don't agree with the country's welfare system, there should be a limit placed on how long you can utilize the services, and though I think many Section 8 residents aren't the best neighbors for various reasons, I also know of some who are recent immigrants or not highly trained, work very hard, but at wages like $10p/h, simply cannot afford Chicago's ridiculous cost of living.

Free rent, food, medical and dental gives some people the right to do nothing but loiter,use/sell drugs, drink and throw trash everywhere, not go to school and invite their friends (who think as they do) to sit on everyone else's porch. They disrespect their neighbors, party in the street all night. CHECK OUT THE RECIPIENTS; hugh flat screen T.V, $200.00 gym shoes, etc. Where does the money come from?Remove Section 8 from the community and watch the change. Crime will decrease, streets will be cleaner and schools will produce more students reading at grade level.

Your comment is very naïve, willfully ignorant or maybe just disingenuous.

It helps “economically challenged families” escape bad neighborhoods and gives them a fresh start in a better environment so that they can proceed to turn the new, formerly better place into a bad neighborhood and the whole vicious cycle will continue. That’s what is wrong with it.

Won't you wake up and come with me now
I'm going to the pawn and loan
    Walking down thirty three

Well what am i supposed to think
I drop a nickel in the sink
I love people like a brother now
But i'm not gonna be their mother now
What if someone walked up to me
And like an apple cut right through me
I'm not just gonna stand there grinning
I'm not the one who's sinin'

Now that you have heard my story now
I've got a little ending to it now
    Whenever you go out alone
Take a little dog a bone
    Think about your little sister
Then you got to drive it home

  22. To 2:01PM:
No landlord has to take in Section 8 tenants. In fact, they're supposed to pass various inspections before they're allowed to take the vouchers & then there are supposed to be regular follow up inspections.
Note, I wrote "supposed to be regular follow up inspections".
From what I've seen & heard, these rarely happen.
The reason landlords go into the Section 8 program is that the rent is guaranteed, so they rarely have to evict, the CHA pays on time almost all the time. They rarely screw up the cash!
But since so many Section 8 tenants are failures at being human, the buildings are destroyed & the first owner bails out & sells to an expert in being a slumlord.
And the neighborhood is destroyed also.

They house not only low-income but also people who are disabled and retired.
If a troubled building exist with verifiable problems, such as arrests, drugs, gangs, or prostitution, then work with City authorities in addressing the issue - not condemn the entire problem.

  25. Section 8 is absolutely the worst welfare program there is and should be abolished for most of them. Maybe have it for elderly and disabled with low Social Security but that's it. The program has bred multi-generational welfare criminals. The comment of 6:37 am is typical bureaucratic double-talk and is totally untrue; problems can't be addressed because Section 8 is itself the problem.

Makes no sense to me!

And, yes, there are some good people in government subsidized housing. I grew up in it. In our later years, my Mother paid a surcharge because she "made to much" but decided to stay until retirement as it was her home. Nobody was dealing drugs, no stabbings, no trash - for the most part, just people that fell upon some misfortune. We all went on to make something of ourselves. But Ray-Ray next door was in prison for armed robbery within one year out of high school. We graduated within 3 years. He had the same quality teachers I did.

  28. Section 8 has to end soon. Contact your representitives, senators and tell them to cut the HUD budget. Section 8 is just a way to move the ghettoe into stable neighborhoods of all races and undermine them. It should have been for people of all races, but instead its a program mostly for single black women and their illegitamate children. Single mothers can live at home with their families like they use to in the past and like the other mothers do now who can't afford to live on their own or don't get section 8. Lets reduce the HUD budget so that their is only enough money for the disabled, seniors, and returning vets.

No area is safe until section 8 is reduced. Landlords don't care about the community as long as they get their money. The only landlords that care are the ones that own property in the area they live in, these are the only landlords that have ways to leagally reject section 8n tenats.

  29. What these landlords who are so eager to get in the program don't understand is that they are only hurting themselves in the long run. Accepting too many section 8 will lead to your properties becoming less desirable to market rate people. Then they will no choice but to find only section 8 and lower their rents to attract more low income people. Then the value of the areas diminish and so their property values goes down as the area becomes more undesirable. So in the end they will only be left with low income people and section 8

  31. People are confusing a Section 8 contract with the vouchers themselves.

Certain buildings have "affordable housing"/Section 8 vouchers built in, meaning you have a reserved housing stock set for Section 8 tenants.

The vouchers CAN apply anywhere, though. It's just up to the CHA to approve the application, which is rare if the building is market rate. Plus, even if the voucher is guaranteed income, but doesn't pass the landlord's qualification test based on the market rate application, it's rejected.

It wholly depends on the landlord.

  34. I don't want to bash ALL section 8 and welfare recipients due to the economical downturn. The past few years, people who have worked their entire lives lost their jobs and NEED the assistance. I absolutely understand there are people out there WHO need it- the bad economy victims, elderly, and disabled.
HOWEVER, I also understand there are the low life POS ghetto trash who depend upon the government to support them, their drug habits, and criminal children. Their purpose in life is the free ride in life. Why does the government put up with this? It's bad enough our tax money also pays for low life prisoners. It seems as though the only ones breeding are the scum who give birth to losers.
The good people KNOW that there is a responsibility to having children. Being financially stable is the first common sense factor that comes to mind when one thinks of kids. And TIME is another factor because you need to give your children attention and discipline them properly.
There should be an income requirement for having children in this country. And those people should also be psychologically and drug tested as well. And anyone receiving any government assistance should be required to do community service for "X" amount of hours, depending on how much received. Enforcing community service would motivate them to get a real job for actual money. And when I say community service, work them like dogs.
I once lived in an apartment where I did not know section 8 recipients lived. When I started seeing people I would NEVER think of associating myself with, mostly tattooed, dirty rednecks, I immediately asked the landlord to void my lease. Sure enough, those tenants were section 8 with children, drinking their Budweisers, walking barefoot, and fighting. This was in Los Angeles, where the White trash seems to land.

  35. I wish there was a google map of Section 8 properties so respectable renters can find out which buildings to avoid.

Seniors and disabled should receive housing assistance, but in dedicated buildings that have medical response teams and housekeeping and other assistance services available.

ALL single parents should be in group homes, not their own apartments. If they are not out to work during the day, they are taking parenting classes and vocational training while their children are being watched and schooled.

Staffing the above would keep plenty of idealistic social workers busy with day to day household activities and give them less time to whine about the injustice of it all.

  36. to 10:55 am - the best way to avoid Section 8 as a renter is to rent in a condo building, from the actual unit owner, if you can.

Section 8 only applies to places that are rental, so scour sites like Craigslist for units being rented by owner, also, if you use an agent, let the agent know that any Section 8 building is off limits to you.

I rent in a high rise, but fortunately, it is in an area of all condo buidlings, so no Section 8 by me. I have friends that aren't so fortunate, though, and they can tell you some NASTY stories.

  42. seems like most of the people on here are ignorant. first of all, section 8 is not just for "niggers" or how about addressing them as african american for starters, lets use our words since we think we are better and more educated. you sound ridiculous! There are plenty of races getting assistance from the government doesn't mean they're lazy don't get me wrong some people are but most people have a story and have to do whats best for their family. if you have a problem with the nonsense in your neighborhood address it to your landlord and do not generalize those that are doing whats best for their families. talking like that you should be hung from a tree.

  43. to 12:26 pm - of course, Section 8 and other public aid is available to all Americans regardless of race (and in many cases, to non-Americans living here).

HOWEVER, look at the stats. Per the Chicago Housing Authority, over 75% of all recipients of CHA Voucher Aid, AKA Section 8 of the Federal Housing Act, are black. Another 9 percent are "mixed race," so now we're up to as high as 84%. Which means that, up to six out of every seven Section 8 people in Chicago are black - but only one in every three people here are black!!

  44. African American? So, what African country are they from? Chimpoutaway? Pooflingastan? GrapeSodaLand?

  45. We are talking about the CHA residents in chicago. I think that other groups should recognize that the CHA is dicriminating and act accordingly its a shame that over 80% of the public housing people are black when this city is only 30 something percent black, there needs to be more racial balance in tenants blacks aren't the only ones struggling.

  46. What right does the government have to tell building owners that they must accept $310 in rent from someone when all of the other apartments are renting for $2000 a month????

Section 8 is destroying Chicago, one building at a time.

  47. WOW!This sounds like newt saying most people on food stamps are black who make up 12.6 percent of the population when truth is there are more non blacks on food stamps. I agree you have criminals. drugs, and such in some neighborhoods more than others, but its not just the black community that commits crimes, but I'm not even going to go there, sometimes we have to watch our anger and the words we use because they might knock on your door step in the form of u being placed in the same situation you pronounce judgement on others, I by no means make excuses for black, white or any other race who committ crimes or destroy property, nor take advantage of a disavantaged program, when i was growing up I use to think if all the low income people life in the projects and they are black why are they the only ones struggling and then I got older and learned that whites and others had programs given to them that the blacks didn't have but things begin to change and although some may not be as low life as I am reading in the post here, of which by the some of them do have jobs, and go to school hoping to get off government and subsidy, do pay a large portion of their rent, no rent is totally free fyi, if u need assistant its as available to you as any other American, All the race bashing and name calling is useless its not going to change anything if you want change then address change but guess where it begins with you, things are not always as they appear, if you take the time to look down rather than up you might find a goldmine inside you that would change peoples outlook on life....i'm just saying

  49. Yes, they're destroying the condo complex I live in. I own my condo, can't sell it b/c of the economy and neither can the other owners, so they like the "sure thing"money in the pocket and that's what section 8 gives. Since the start of the section 8 people coming there's been countless calls to police, more litter, more noise, and more wierdos. In fact, I think my sec 8 neighbor is subsidizing with selling crack, which is total bs. What pains me is how I work all freakin day come home and they're free and basking in the sun all day long. I'm sick of it. And why does dupage always send troubled black section 8 families here? the dupage county housing authority is currently being investigated for not conducting proper checks of people who are supposedly "eligible" to be on section 8. The executive producer gave another board member the green light to build subsidized units so the builder could collect a goldmine of money from each resident, because it's guaranteed money coming in. It's a joke. It needs to end. Not only is my condo worth less but having section 8 people move in will only make it worse. Thanks alot! appreciate it.

  50. i don't dare become friendly with a section 8er as they will try to seek out help for their dependent life by asking for a ride to the store, borrowing sugar turns into asking for a loan. The government probably means well by helping the people who REALLY need it but are being far too accepting of the LAZY moochers who aren't doing a damn thing to help themselves, i know cuz i can hear them talking and it's not about having interviews or getting jobs. THERE SHOULD BE A LIMIT TO HOW LONG MY TAX MONEY PAYS FOR THEIR FREE RIDE, (those applicable) and proof that they are not b.s. ing their way to gain free money.... 51. If you wanna fine the landlord who accepted section 8 residents in your area, CALL THE COPS on them every time they are loud, obnoxious, loitering and suspicious. Every time you do, the landlord gets fined. Unfortunately, the landlords around here using section 8 don't give a rat's a** what it's doing to the rest of it. MAKES ME SICK.

It's true it's a total cover up for bringing the single black mothers out of the ghetto and thrown in the mix of others who have worked hard to get where they are, how is that fair?

All the single black mothers over here are working all the time and leave their little punk kids at home where they only cause more problem smoking dope, parties, loud music, littering, disruptive.... We now have documented gang members in my area thanks to good ol' section 8.

You have to be also careful who you rent from management wise (especially on site mgmt). Because they can be two-faced & vindictive. Like Dr. Jeckle & Mr. Hyde. You don't have to be a bad tenant for them act up against you. That goes for the building staff as well. They'll try to find opportunities to make good tenents look bad no matter what. Racist people have no right to judge me. Only God is allowed to do that. We got enough problems dealing with people of the same race hating on each other. That's why I can appreciate the signs of Armageddon. Everything happens for a reason.

  59. Section knows no race it just depends where in the US you live. I live on the East Coast and am African American. I work 40 hours a week and the majority of Section 8 recipients are Hispanic, speak no English and don't work period . It awful because as Section 8 becomes more prevalent the rents increase. Instead of hating people I direct my anger toward the predominantly white apartment and home owners that rent to section 8 voucher holders. If those landlords would stop being greedy and stop renting to them we wouldn't have a problem. Now in MA where I live a 2 bedroom is almost 1000 dollars because of Section 8 vouchers. My sister was just telling me the other day you won't get any type of support unless you speak Spanish. My suspicion is that in the other parts of MA(e.g. Palmer or Ware) the white trash are do the same thing. Live in a trailer or house with their voucher, drink, do meth, and pop out kids.

And I do not ask for loans nor would I ask for sugar from any one a round me .I do not think that since a I have section eight that I have to live in a shit hole or be a pig so called yuppies next door would drink their corona beers or red bull mixes and go on to their roof and start shooting their guns flicking their smokes into the yard next door .classy . Live in a blue collar area then the yuppies come with their rich projects and rise the taxes for the workers no one says anything .but reveres that and every one has a shit fit When I was growing up every one knew each other and the parents looked out for all the kids every parent worked we did not have much but we where cared for and had a clean home .

  62. I am a medically retired U.S. Navy veteran. I served my country honorably from 1989 to 2006. I fought in two wars (Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom. After I retired from the military, I started working in social services from 2007 to 2011. Due to state and local budget cuts, I was laid off and I couldn't find employment. I ended up loosing my home, car repo, and basically loosing everything I owned. I ended up homeless for over a year. Thanks to the efforts of President Obama and Senator Dick Durbin, programs were created to help veterans and their families. Illinois is now ranked 4th in the nation when it comes to services for veterans. I was eligible for the HUD-VASH housing voucher program(CHA-section 8) HUD-Vash is a VA housing program for veterans and their families. Upon investigation of the program, I found out that section 8 was never intended to be a solution for permanent housing. It was, and still is a transitional program, that includes health, education, and job training. I am enrolled in the Cisco Networking Academy, partnered with DeVry University. I am a full time student in their CCNA program for IT engineering. The school is located downtown, and classes sometimes end late and I want to live in a safe neighborhood. I am currently looking for housing, with my section 8 voucher, in the Hyde Park, Kenwood, North Woodlawn, or Lake View area. I am a smart intelligent black man. Not every black person, you see on section 8, is lazy, a thug, or a criminal. When I become an IT engineer working for some ISP making a 6 fig annual salary, I will be off of section 8 but I will be humble and thank God that it was there for me. Until you walk a mile in someone else shoes, don't judge them. P.S. The black man who made the comment "I hate n***ers, SHAME ON YOU. Maybe you should get into social services, or volunteer to educate, not hate. GOD BLESS

There are a lot of whites that are on the program, but you can't spot them only because they blend in with the whites that are already in the suburban areas. Do research before you start to just post comments just to have something to talk about. I work full time, I'm also in college. I need the assistance, but just don't have it. Everywhere I've lived I can go back, me and my family has never torn up any of the apartments we've lived in. Don't be so quick to judge them all. I have friends that have section 8 that work everyday it's just that everyone don't have high paying jobs and can't afford all the amounts of market rent that is out there. If you want to judge, judge the ones' that are actually not working, but what will be the point. In the end only God can judge you.

  68. Section 8 has nothing to do with HATE, it has nothing to do with RACE...If people are bringing down neighborhoods (on Sect 8) it is their LIFESTYLES!!! Let me make you aware of other things about SECT 8...in DuPage Co., DHA is pro owner/landlord from what we have seen. They appear to only want SHEEPLE, FOLLOWERS, THOSE THAT PUT UP, SHUT UP, AND IGNORE. We have been discriminated against for merely attempting to address Property Maintenance through other means which includes DHA, as DHA HQS is sooo minimal so next steps are the Village or City Property Maintenance Codes where units are located...another aspect DHA is suppose to be following as they are also to be upholding the codes and ordinances in place where the units are located...but when there appears to be pro-owner agendas...well let's just say on around 1995-1996 HUD changed policy to allow non-renewal of tenants after the first year without reason as they caved to ILAR, Illinois Association of Realtors...whom would pull out of the program if this was not done & we can advise you that since this factor, we have been forced to move almost every year since as DHA doesn't & didn't care. This would ALWAYS come after attempting to get timely maintenance/repairs/drug issues/etc... addressed through the City/Village/DHA where our units had been located, thus it amounts to DHA/DuPage Co. allowing retaliation against tenants WHICH IS A VIOLATION IN ILLINOIS AS IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO RETALIATE AGAINST A TENANT FOR REPORTING PROBLEMS...BUT GOOD LUCK GETTING THAT UPHELD IN A DUPAGE CO. COURT!!! Maybe this will change now since JOHN DAY is no longer there allowing inappropriate use of funds & inappropriate behaviors of DHA Inspectors. One Can ONLY HOPE!!! By the way, WE ARE WHITE & use our knowledge appropriately. I wish I could help others under the circumstances who have done right only to be done WRONG!!!

  69. I'm black and I wouldn't want to live next to a Section 8 person after my living experience in the south shore area of Chicago. I'm surrounded by these low life idiots and their landlords who all happen to be either white or east Indian (Wtf).

You should these people, bbqing near the curb where people park their cars, blasting their horrible music. Then, they have the nerve to look at you like you're crazy because you want to park your car where it should be parked! They hang out, blocking the entrances to the buildings, they stare at you funny, and they've stolen the hubcaps off of my car (2005 Vue. .. really?) twice!

I've been here a year and my lease is expiring in the next 3 weeks. I'm already looking to move, but this time I'm much wiser. I'm getting out of the city. The suburb I choose to live in must have a population of less than 30% blacks in it. I'm tired of being grouped in with the section 8'rs.

I don't blame white people or even black people for despising them. I know I do.

  73. I freaking hate section 8 scum and I'm black. I work full time and have a degree. I live in a building with entitled section 8 trash. My building has predominantly PUERTO RICAN section 8 which is a whole new bred of trash. However I'm getting tired of these white landlords who will rent to the cesspool of section 8 because they make a hefty profit. I had to vent my frustration because I just spoke to a landlord that is renting a house he wants 1200 I asked about the neighborhood and if there was section 8. He became huffy and said that he rents to section 8 and they are nice people. Sure they're nice the landlord gets a profit and he would never live next to them. Easy for him to sit back in judgment of my dislike for a whole generation of black, white , puerto rican and asian to get free housing. In the town where I live there is a whole section of condescending Asians who don't speak the language but are on welfare. SO fed up. Oh and the jerk asked me why I don't buy a house. Well lets see I'm black and the neighborhoods that are descent are in white sections of town. I don't want to live near a bunch of bigots and end up feeling uncomfortable in my own home. If I buy in the city I live in there is such a huge population of section 8 most of them rent houses and I don't want to be stuck with them. So there you have a black female that hates section 8 and is in the same quandary as many white Americans. Shocking!

  74. WOW!!! I can only say from experience that Sect. 8 is nothing short of allowed slum lording in the guise of decency, safety, security, etc as most landlords/owners/managers we have rented from only want their monies & DO NOT want to fix &/or address gangs, drugs, drunks puking, etc & only turn around to non-renew any Sect. 8 tenant attempting to be appropriate in these facets!!! The HQS of HUD/Housing is SO LOW, even though HUD & the HOUSING AUTHORITIES are suppose to be abiding by the local codes & ordinances of the cities & villages where the units are located.

We have been paying almost ALL of our rent where we are...Housing pays very little & due to the pro-owner agenda of housing where we are as well as where we have been...along with how well they work with landlords/owners/managers in our experiences...it is continually observed that if you put anything in writing to either, or go to any other government agency (ie IDPH, EPA, Police, etc...), in the beginning or after years of not...you get the same abusive, retaliatory non-renewal...not for doing wrong but for attempting to get your roof leaks, gas leaks, cracked pre-existing windows, mold, leaking pre-existing faucet (took over four years to get replaced by owner), warped rotted/moldy baseboards, inappropriately functioning appliances that TWO housing inspectors passed, mice infestation, exterior deterioration, and a whole slue of other common decency aspects, FIXED or addressed after those accepting these subsidies do not address them in a timely fashion. They also do not want to accommodate for certain medical conditions, lie about tenants in order to get housing to write up tenants...

There is good & bad in all races, lifestyles, et al.

We can currently say that those yearly inspections...well...they are done. The inspector that did our unit left off half the unit on the initial inspection (done without tenant) & as each inspection came & went, left off more & more, listed things in rooms that were not present on the initial inspection (done without tenant) mislabeled bedrooms, ignored holes in exterior...SO FOR ANY SECTION 8 TENANTS THAT WANT COPIES OF THEIR INSPECTIONS, GO THROUGH YOUR HOUSING AUTHORITIES FOIA OFFICER. This is how we found out about what was actually listed on the reports, OR NOT.

Just because some need help & housing, should not mean we have to take a seat on the stupid plane, nor should we have to become ignorant as this is part of the reason some have the problems they do...LACK OF CARING, DECENCY, RESPECT AND SO ON, which would more than likely occur even if some did not need assistance in their rental.

We have been threatened by mgrs &/or friends of for addressing aspects in an appropriate fashion; We have been lied about without police reports being filed & had our security deposits withheld based on false unfounded accusations; We have had to live in constant fear due to policy changes that occurred in/around '95/'96 as well as what we have dealt with personally including children being targeted, windows being shot out-even with an Alderman owned & run management company (which at the time was against Village/City policy), We have had retaliatory eviction/non-renewal, PRAIRIE STATE DOESN'T CARE, COURTS DO NOT CARE...people are only human so until we progress & become more civil instead of retaliate, regress, become too greedy or twisted, well, this will continue to be the result.

  75. section 8 people pay taxes too. they work, they go to school. There just everyday people and some even pay "their own rent". Yes not all section 8 people get their entire rent paid in full. Some get only help with half their rent. Put yourself in a homeless situation would you rather be on the street wondering if you'll live to see another day or have someone help you with half if not all your rent. 78. The section 8 program is the biggest misallocation of tax dollars. All that this riff raff does is spending their money on drugs, partying all day and night, robs our vehicles while we sleep, and burglarizes our houses while we go to work, because they don't have to work, and we as tax payers enable this bullshit to go on with our money...

These section 8 low-lifes should be put in tents behind a fence somewhere outside of our towns and kept there until they find a job and can effort to rent on their own like any other decent person. To keeping them as animals behind a fence is what they deserve, because thats what they are, and there is nothing to motivate them to get jobs as many states give out to the bums more cash and other benefits than what a decent person working in a minimum wage job.

Also rather then giving them food stamps and social security cash based on how many kids they pop out. They should be given a birth control to keep the population of these losers multiplying like a rats.

Section 8 turns decent neighborhoods into thrird-world ghettos and this whole program should burn in hell with all its recipients and participating landlords!

  80. I'm on section 8, some times I work 12-16hrs a day WITHOUT MAKING WHAT YOU WILL MAKE AN HOUR. IT IS 10 TIMES HARDER FOR BLACKS TO FIND WORK. I live in a quiet neighborhood & I'm black. my 3 kids understands cos I remind them all the time that America is like a business & it expects profit from them when they grow up & start paying taxes to help future children like them.
Yes I receive medical, no cash. This is all because I have the kids with me if not I don't need any section 8.

out of my 3 kids, 2 are taking AP classes, A's and B's, Both are already being contacted by Best colleges to register with them. They are not settling for anything but the best colleges. When I mention community college, they look at me like I want to murder them. Only one of the 3 will be attending community college. They are very active in church and school activities. No one knows that we are on section 8 except if we tell you.

My kids work hard every day in school work, activities and in the community to be a fruitful adult later. This is all with section 8 help, they have a chance of being a professional adult.

Some kids give up and don't even try cos they don't have a chance, the area they find themselves living in.
The section 8 office, especially welfare office has at least 2twice many white than black but they may be just in my area.
In conclusion, section 8 is doing more good than harm, If I did not get that help, my 3 kids will probably be turning into a burden for society instead of profit.

    1. That's your problem!! You had chance to do good in school just like every one. You need to move some place you can afford not everyone should live every place. You got to live ware you can afford!! I should not have my tax money paying for you! As far as whites on welfair there are some but blacks are 17% of Americas population and 43% of welfare system so you are way way more. Why?? Why are you 75% the jail population ? Blacks act like you don't have to support yourself. Only you don't have to pay for your mistakes. But every one got to support you . Why? There's is no reason

  81. I is a proud black mother of 7 beautiful children.

I am a full time mom, no time to work.

These kids fathers cant pay me child support. All but one is either unemployed or inprison.

Sect 8 along with other programs lets me and my kids live the simple life. I can afford to buy them nice clothes, videogames (developmental), flat screens/laptops (educational purposes) and even 2012 model vehicles for my oldest kids (also for educational transport). These kids and myself cant be working (my oldest 17,23, 24) we have problems we need t work through, and we need to live in a upscale housing so we can relax and grow as human beings.

    Right on girl.

I also is black and have kid.

We slaves, and now it time for them to pay up so we can have an easier life and relax a bit. We have fought hard for recognition, we deserves the right to be happy and do whatever we want with the house/apartment we is entitled.

Work? I don't have time for that. I have two kids, and my right arm is sore sometime. Why should I work? Mmy ancestors work hard, so I have the right to relax.

  83. Section 8 has destroyed my once thriving, middle-class neighborhood. Rap music shaking my windows, baby mamas being beaten and stabbed, lots of unattended children, constant swearing, violence, theft, crime and drug dealers. Oh and the landlord... he lives in a wealthy neighboring town and sucks millions from the government! I had to stop allowing my daughter to play outside last year after a renowned meth dealer moved in. Unfortunately, I am selling my house this summer because of these people- I cannot tolerate it anymore! I get that HUD wants to provide opportunities for everybody but they do nothing to assimilate people into a different environment. They drop them off with their rent vouchers and say "hey good luck climbing the ladder of success". Instead they do what they know: violence, drugs and breeding- it is GROSS!

  85. I live in an upper middle class neighborhood in Randolph, MA in a house I have a mortgage on. There are section 8 apartments on my street and there is only one entrance/exit to the entire housing area. We are subject to a constant stream of cars (usually Honda Civics, Nissans, older Acuras etc) with tinted windows and very very loud exhaust systems that drive by all day and night with the music (usually with profanities and the word N***er over and over again) blasting at full volume. Out of state (NY, NJ, CT) plates are now commonplace up and down the street. Blacks get in fights in the street, usually with children watching, these people nearly always throw garbage, bottles, lottery tickets etc out the window when they drive by. Several bags of trash a week on the lawn. They walk down the middle of the road (on the yellow line) and walk slowly in front of cars like they are owed something. The police are CONSTANTLY going to the apartment complexes. As well as ambulances. It's as if these people get bored and decide to call an ambulance because they need something to do. Many of those who are walking have a cell phone to their ear and you can hear them several blocks away. I would like to see an end to section 8. There are people that truely need it, but it is obvious there are a majority that just want to destroy the neighborhood and make a career off of working the system by having kids they can't afford and being moved to neighborhoods they can't afford otherwise. I worked for everything I have, why should I have my property destroyed by people that have no desire to work? Enough is enough- shut off the tap. If you want free housing and don't want to better yourself and want to act like animals, then you live in a place with other people who want the same, not down the street from people who work hard and contribute to society. I am completely opposed to section 8.

  87. I live in the DC area, in a condo that I own, and there is a unit on my floor that rents to Section 8 tenants. The woman who was there when I moved in (and was white, by the way) was mentally ill, an alcoholic, and violent. Oh, and she had a criminal record. She got thrown out this year after hitting a neighbor whom she had repeatedly harassed. There's another Section 8 tenant in there now. I haven't spoken to her so I don't know if she's horrible, too, but I'm not exactly eager to befriend her.

  90. Anonoymous;

Let me give you an heads up what you will experience with sec 8 voucher holder when they move into your community and bring bad elements with them. It will make you sick to your stomach that you will loss many nights of sleep. The History of our Community
The vast majority of the homeowners in our small community have been living in this area for over 40 years. We have raised our children to become productive model citizens. Children who grew up in this community were always involved in some extra curriculum program, to avoid bad elements. Most of us are retired and working class residences trying to enjoy our homes that we purchased and pay property taxes. This has always been a quiet stabilize neighborhood with little crime which statistics has shown. The homeowners have always taken pride in beautification of their properties; meaning clean blocks, side streets, and alleys along with manicure lawn. At night the communities was basically very quiet and sleep with little or no traffic. The neighbors are like adopted families we all know each other and look out for everyone safety and homes. Unfortunately, during the time the house market crashed a lot homeowners who lost their homes in 2009, caused some but not a lot of vacant homes in our neighborhood. In 2012, we noticed a tremendous amount of outside investors who have come into our community and purchased up the majority of vacant homes to rent only to CHA tenants. During this year we have had flood of Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) voucher holders who have moved in our community and brought in bad elements. Although, we do recognized that not all renters or CHA tenants are destructive, and the community have welcome them with open arms. As of today 4/9/2015 our community has become: drug houses, trash all over the streets and alley, gang activities, standing on corners, police is constantly being called almost everyday. fighting in the street, drug traffic on foot, bikes, and cars, shootings, cars vandalisms, house break-in, and the list goes on and on. CHA has made it so hard to evident them people because they are centralize this bad elements in the once was the middle class black communities.

  91. These sec 8 voucher average: A home was once the American dream as American worked a to buy a home. Now the government is given homes to this people who don't have motivation to do nothing but sell drugs and rent rooms, They live better than the average work person who can't barely pay rent. Free rent, food stamps, free lights and gas, uniform for there children. They are living off the tax payer money. This program is so mismangemented of our taxes. When they finished bring down your community and neighborhood your home you worked hard to purchased won't be worth nothing.

  95. There needs to be Section 8 reform. There are too many people abusing the system. There's a 21 year old Section 8 tenant who just moved into my building. She's divorced (already married and divorced by age 21!), she doesn't work and has no kids. She's not disabled. There's absolutely no reason for her to not go out and get a job - she just wants to be able to get free housing and food from the government, and yells "discrimination" when anyone questions her as to when she's going to start looking for work. She's rude to management and the other tenants, and is constantly causing problems in the building. I'm sorry, but it's completely unfair and illogical for some people to have to work while others completely capable of working just live off the government. We need to make Section 8 only available long term for seniors and those who are physically disabled and can't work. For everyone else, there should be restrictions on who can get it, and limits as to how long someone can be on it. The system we have now is ridiculous.
