Bomb scare: Suspicious package in West Ridge
Authorities were investigating a suspicious package in Chicago’s West Rogers Park, West Ridge neighborhood.
Traffic between Maplewood and Devon, and Campbell and Devon, was shut down after a potentially explosive device was spotted around 3:15 p.m.
According to police dispatch, the Chicago Police Department’s arson and bomb unit set up a command post on the 2500 block of West Devon, near Devon and Maplewood.
At 4:17 p.m., officers at the scene were instructed to move away from the area, as bomb and arson began to approach the package.
It’s unclear why the first attempt to access the package was unsuccessful, but a second attempt to approach the package was made around 4:33 p.m.
The package was cleared at 4:41 p.m. No hazardous materials were found.
Blocked streets were reopened shortly thereafter.
