Via Facebook, we reached out to several people who knew Edward Clark personally, but they have not responded to our emails.
However, we did find some interesting photos of the slain North Side man.
For instance, there is a touching photo of Clark lovingly holding an infant in his arms, and an adorable picture of Clark when he was probably 8 or 9-years-old.
But of all the photos we unearthed, one picture really caught our attention.
A few hours ago, someone erected a curbside memorial in Clark's honor and posted a picture of it online.
And there, surrounded by candles and leaning against a soft, white teddy bear... is a red pitchfork.
Maybe we're naive, or just need to get out more, but we have never seen a pitchfork at anyone's memorial or funeral.
Either pitchforks have been converted into a positive religious symbol, or that little bugger has a more ominous meaning.
'Lil Eddie Clark obviously was a follower of the Wiccan belief system - hence the pitchfork.

It deeply saddens me to see such hate in the community that raised me. The disrespect of human life in regards to the shooting as well as the hatefully racist comments being made. Uptown raised me the successful young BLACK scholar that some of you racist can never be. I now attend William and Marry college in virginia which is the second oldest college in the united states only next to Harvard. ReplyDeleteFreedom of speech means that the STATE cannot come in and limit what individuals or groups say, ie, you can't go to prison for expressing political beliefs that are in the minority. Legal protections exist to prevent a person or group from speading falsehoods that can damage another person or group's reputation, as long as that speech hurts them financially (ie, hurts their business). And THOSE protections came in long after the BoR was signed.
Freedom of speech in no way is meant to, "not step on other's toes." Person to person communication wasn't even in their mind when freedom of speech was included in the bill of rights. Go take a class on constitutional history.
Also, being judged by god? Guess what - he's not in heaven, he's rotting underground right now. He's not being judged by a deity, he's being judged by things that exist, as in, people.

Not one person in this whole conversation spoke one word without emotion. Emotion is the death of reason. In the past we were taught to deal with emotions, now we have a philosophy that thinking emotionally leads to better decisons. Let me explain to you the reality of life here. First, let me extend my condolences to the family of Edward Clark. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to lose someone that abruptly and coldly. He deserved better, everyone does. Everyone on here who has never met this man, owes him and his family an apology for the absolute disgrace of human civility and sympathy some of these comments have shown. Those who have written such racist words are just as evil as the "gangbangers" they so negetively refer too. In fact, if you really think about, racism came before gangs. Slavery!!! I mean ide have a lot of pent up anger towards a group of people that enslaved, raped, tortured, murdered, and did thousands of other unspeakable travisties to my people as well. You white people cry about being robbed, yet your descendents did much worse. Who are you now to judge? Now that you have had the privlidge of having your most basic needs satisfied, you were able to allow your mind to progress to the point it is now, but the african american culture did not. Its easy to think about morality and values, when you have food on the table and a warm house. But the folks on the south side, these "gangbangers" you so eloquently refer too, how are we suppose to expect them to have even a momment to consider right from wrong, when the next meal and making rent are much more pertinent. Those who are fortunate are exactly that, fortunate. Fortunate to allow the mind to explore the depths of reason, logic, morality. I mean basically, fortunate enought to have a good, safe, structured school environment. I mean thats where I learned my morals and values from. My parents obviously were influential, but my peers and immediate environment may have been even more influential. It is not simply that "black people" (and I hate to say that because I do not feel skin color has anything to do with it evident by the fact that gang mentality permeates all societies regardless of color) are murdering thugs and that white people are racist pussys even though all comments on here would lead one to believe such. Its kind of like democracy. You elect people to represent you because not everyone in intelligent enough to have a valid opinion. Thats is why the people on here are probably not running for office any time soon, thank god. I mean look at the comments from a psychological point of view. Case # 1: Im a white single male living in uptown, I was walking late at night and was robbed at gun point by two black men. This is an actualy police report that happened in the uptown area. So I ask the african american crowd to respond to that. Now at first, if I were to be arguing for the african american side pertending I am a lawyer, I would say, "Your honor, just because of a few bad apples, it doesnt mean that the whole black population is bad." And that argument would be sound, unless the next day another similar crime happened.

The best way to combat that image, is for the african american culture, as well as society in general, to stop celebrating this behavior. Instead of rapping and glorifying black dudes who look like gangbangers in rap videos who have sex with multiple partners, who arent concerned about being loyal to their wife, who instead of taking their kids fishing or to the park or just to talk to them, teach them how to shoot guns and get hoes and smoke weed and sell drugs and "be cool". Because isnt that whats cool? Is lil wayne not cool? Snoop Dogg? I mean we see these rappers and then when kids emulate them we say its individual problems not society as a whole. I mean I did not know Mr. Clark, but the last thing I would want my family to see at my memorial was bottles of svedka and a pitchfork. where is the logic in that. It is sad and unfair that some people live in multimillion dollar mansions with maids and others live in shoe boxes with barbed wire on the windows. BUT THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO COMMIT A CRIME. I dont care how poor you are, stealing from someone barely wealthier than you is not the answer. I mean there is no economic reason for rape or murder. Bottom line is this, both sides are right and wrong, but the hatred and anger towards the other side, which I reiterate are emotions, cloud the logical decisions we could make to better all our lives. Next time instead of white people assuming that all crime has a black face, we should look at ethnicities around our own neighborhoods. Uptown probably has one of the larger more concentrated areas of afican american inhabitants in Chicago outside of the south side. Of course a good proportion of criminals are going to black, it only makes sense. But when you look at maximum security prisons and serial killers, they are mostly white. However, the black polualtion as well, needs to understand that its not the best idea to tell a white person who is talking out their ass that, "if i find you u gna be in the ground ten feet lower than edward." I am sure your buddy is looking down at you proud that you would honor his death, honor this deepest of tragedies, my forcing another family to go through the same exact thing. YOUR AN IDITO. Its those kind of people, not african americans, but those kind of PEOPLE that cause this.
