Man killed in hit and run car accident on Chicago's Northwest Side

Around 8:11 p.m., a man was struck by a car on the 1600 block of North Kimball Avenue, near the intersection of North Avenue and Kimball, where Kimball merges into Homan Avenue.

A witness at the scene said the hit and run victim was in grave condition. Police later confirmed the man died.

A tipster informed investigators that a green Chevy Blazer with the license plate L61603, is responsible for the fatal car accident.

The car has major front-end damage and a busted front window, said the source. 

Reportedly, there were two African-American occupants, possibly a man and a woman, in the offending vehicle.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to contact the police.

    Heard on the news that traffic fatalities are down BUT it seems like hit & runs are way up. People might be putting their seat belts on but they need to be putting the cell phone down and pay attention! Even when I have a "walk" sign, I NEVER cross the street until ALL cars are stopped because less & less people are paying attention and putting pedestrians in danger.

    Towanda, cell phones are a blessing and a curse. I see distracted divers all the time, putting other people's lives in danger. :-(
