Did 18-year-old Okoi Ofem commit suicide in a Far South Side Chicago Police Department jail cell, or was there foul play?
According to various news reports, Ofem, an aspiring boxer, hanged himself at the 4th District Chicago Station at 2255 East 103rd Street on Saturday, September 14, 2013.
Shortly thereafter, the teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Citing several unconfirmed sources, Ofem may have been on life-support for a brief period of time.
A search of public records indicate the South Side teen was arrested back in May 2013, for driving with a suspended license.
Chicago News Report was unable to find any evidence of more serious offenses in Ofem's criminal background.
CNR reached out to several alleged friends of the dead teen. So far, there has been no response.
However, after reviewing several online discussions regarding Ofem's seemingly untimely death, none of Ofem's so-called acquaintances seem to suspect foul play.
