  1. Ghetto thugs don't have to have a motive. They wake up in the AFTERNOON, after preying on innocent citizens all night, with nothing but hatred in their souls.

  2. Being a teenager in Chicago isn't what it used to be.

  3. Changing the minds, souls and hearts of people is a more difficult challenge, unlike changing neighborhoods via re-gentrification. :(

Timothy, obviously, some teenagers experience the above article, while others don't.

Neighborhood, morality/ethics, general society (more so in the past) and parental or other adult influence can shape a teenager positively. :)

  5. Rudy, I don't know if it's because we have more access to information these days, but it seems like the level of street violence involving teenagers has drastically increased.

When I was a teenager growing up in the Hyde Park/Kenwood area, nearly 27-years-ago, the atmosphere on the streets seemed much lighter. Even when I ventured into less "stable" neighborhoods, I never felt like I was entering a war zone. Maybe I was a bit naive.

Today, no matter where I am in the city, I am conscious of the fact that serious trouble could jump off at any minute -- especially if there are a lot of teenagers around.

From where I sit, there is a remarkable lack of respect for human life among today's youths.

  7. Timothy, we are in deep doodoo with this generation of teens and the future doesn't look very bright for America if this is what we get. It starts at home, maybe even in church(I'm not a believer). Children are taught behavior, be it good or bad. Kinda like a pit bull is taught to be mean by some people thereby trashing it's reputation...just like these ghetto thugs are trashing their culture and creating a racial divide...something I thought ended a long time ago. Something some great people died for. The entire black culture HAS to come together and stop these ghetto thugs from infesting the city. Oh wait, that's up to the government to take care of what they produce. Come on people, stand up and grow some! Try "owning" it for a change in order to make a change! It's not my job or ANYONE else's to take care of your children!

  8. I think it starts with the government not helping out pregnant teens. Usually if there's nothing to fall back on, you will refrain from doing risky things like not using a condom, which results in gangs and other ignorant, useless people.

  9. Many programs are available for teenagers, including pregnant ones. If this were 1951, 1961 or 1971, I could understand lack of sexual education knowledge. In 2011, there's no excuse, despite what Maury and judge shows air.
