Uptown: Man ‘helping with groceries’ puts gun to woman’s head, says cops

An Uptown woman had a gun put to her head during an attempted robbery on Chicago's North Side, said police.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at approximately 11:48 p.m., an armed robbery was reported on the 1000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, near Lawrence and Kenmore.

Initial police dispatch reports indicated a female victim was robbed at gunpoint.

However, after a brief investigation, officers said nothing was taken during the alleged attempted robbery.

The offender was described as a tall, bald, male black wearing a blue, plaid jacket.

Citing preliminary information, the offender offered to carry the woman’s groceries. Some time after the offer was made, a gun was reportedly put against the woman’s head.

While officers were interviewing the victim, she could be heard crying hysterically over the police radio.

Police said the would-be robber fled the scene in a silver Chevy with the license plate 6405132.

If you spot this vehicle in the area, please contact the police.

  1. That is right outside the Lawrence House. I lived there for 18 months and I know all the characters around there, chances are pretty good it was one of the "regulars" who spend up to 10 hours a day prowling the building/neighborhood.
