The intersection of West Touhy Avenue and North Western Avenue in Rogers Park was shut down due to a bomb threat. The Chicago police bomb and arson unit was contacted regarding a suspicious package in the area.
The package was discovered around 4:30 p.m.
Around 7:40 p.m., an officer in the area requested a CTA supervisor. The officer said several bus drivers were ignoring the street closures, and threatened to arrest a bus driver for allegedly threatening him.
News from CTA: #49B North Western buses are temporarily rerouted in both directions via Western, Lunt, California, Howard, and Western, due to Chicago Police Department activity.
At 8 p.m. officers announced that traffic was no longer being diverted and CTA bus number 49B Western could resume its regular bus route. Apparently, the suspicious package was inspected using a remote device and determined to be non-lethal.

So what was this suspicious package?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no one ever bothered to describe the package. In fact, a reader told me that a local radio station told its listeners that traffic was being diverted due to "car accident".
