This morning, a man was shot during what police are calling an attempted robbery in his own backyard.
The shooting occurred around 8:49 a.m. on the 3400 block of West 65th street in Chicago’s Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
According to the victim, he was approached by two African-American men wearing dark gray or black clothing. Both suspects were described as 19 to 20-years-old and approximately 170 lbs.
One offender brandished a “blue steel revolver” and shot the man in the leg, said one officer. However, initial 911 reports indicated the victim was shot in the neck, leg, and knee.
The offenders fled the scene in an unknown direction, without any proceeds.
At 9:06 a.m., a man rehabbing an apartment on the 6500 block of South Fairfield Avenue was robbed at gunpoint. Because of a language barrier, information was not forthcoming, but officers were able to determine that two African-American men dressed in dark gray or black clothing, pulled a “blue steel revolver”, and stole the man’s wallet.
A witness saw the thieves jump into a white Cadillac with “star, chrome, spoke rims”. The witness told police there were two more African-American men waiting in the car.
At 9:20 a.m., officers patrolling the area stopped a white Cadillac occupied by four African-American men wearing all black clothing. The vehicle was pulled over on the 6500 block of Western Avenue.
Police are trying to get a positive identification on the suspects.
