Uptown: Man Shot at Wilson and Malden

UPDATE  At 1 a.m., a citizen reported hearing shots fired near the corner of West Wilson Ave. and North Malden Street, in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood.

Three minutes later, police were notified that a man believed to be in his twenties, was shot on the 4500 block of North Malden Street (Wilson and Malden).

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene.

Apparently, the man was inside his apartment when he was shot. Two windows in the man's home were struck by bullets.

The shooting victim was shot in the leg. And according to police, he was taken to Illinois Masonic in good condition. The victim was not being cooperative, said one officer on the scene.

At 3:17 a.m., officers in the area heard more gunshots - this time,  in the vicinity of Wilson and Broadway. Several 911 callers also reported hearing gunshots in the area.

At 3:23 a.m., police announced that they couldn't locate a shooting victim or a shooter.

NOTE: Even though Uptown Update is calling this a gang related shooting, Chicago News Report has no information to back up that claim. In fact, based on the shooting victim's information, which we withheld from this article, we seriously doubt that the man who was shot, has any gang affiliations. Although, anything is possible.

If the complainant was being uncooperative with the police,  he may have been too afraid to assist the officers in their investigation.

  1. Not sure if this victim was in the gang, but the P Stones sure were running fast from the scene. They have now taken over this corner (Wilson & Malden) after being removed from Wilson and Magnolia.

  2. Well, like I said, anything is possible. But I don't know too many Polish men (at least I think his name is Polish) who belong to predominately African-American gangs.

There are so many variables to this story, I could speculate from here until eternity.

The man was shot while he was inside his home. 2 bullets went through two different windows, lodging in the apartment walls.

The victim was shot in the leg. He could have been looking out the window or walking by the window, when the shots rang out. We all know gang members aren't the best shooters when it comes to hitting their intended mark.

Besides, if the victim knows he lives in gang territory, he may be too afraid to talk to police.

  3. Anonymous, just curious who is now in control of wilson and magnolia? I noticed a changing of the guard, and I must say I feel much less comfortable with whoever is there now. I thought P stones were there before, but you are saying they are who took over... who is the rival in this skirmish and who controls it now?
