Tour boat 'catches fire' on Chicago River

Around 1:25 p.m, the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Police Marine Unit, were notified after a charter boat apparently caught on fire.

According to police dispatch, a Wendella tour boat caught fire while taxiing along the Chicago River behind the Trump International Hotel at 401 North Michigan Avenue.

A preliminary report indicated the boat’s air-conditioning unit overheated.

Although it’s unclear how many passengers were on board at the time, several people had to be removed from the boat.

The extent of the damage to the boat, if any, was not disclosed.

No injuries were reported.
