There are few details available regarding the shooting, but it appears someone was shot to death in the vicinity of North Ashland Avenue and West Howard Street, and North Marshfield Avenue and West Howard Street.
At the time of this report, authorities were securing an area near the basketball court at Willye B. White Park.
At 5:18 p.m., an officer at the scene requested back up, because a large group of people were throwing bottles at police.
UPDATE: According to the Chicago Tribune, a 22-year-old man was shot in the head on the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terrace - one of the most violent streets on Chicago's North Side.
These animals don't deserve police services.

ReplyDeleteNothing good happens on Jonquil Terrace. That street has been a synonym for black crime for forty years. Years ago, that area was one of the few "bad" areas of Rogers Park, But now Rogers Park is infested with gangs and criminals.
ReplyDeleteIn the early 90s, before I moved to Uptown, I used to live near Pratt and Sheridan. Back then, the neighborhood was quite nice. In fact, I frequently walked from my place to visit friends who lived near Pratt and Clark. I believe the 90s were the beginning of the end... for Rogers Park and Uptown.

ReplyDeleteI lived in Rogers Park in the 90s, it was BAD (at least to me)! I live at Sheridan & Chase now, it's a bad area indeed. I blame the landlords who accepted Section 8 back in the early part of 2000. Now I notice in the apt ads, "NO SECTION 8". Too little too late now, or is it? I walk to Jarvis train stop every day to go to work (i'm a data entry clerk in Merch Mart). I'm black, I have to say, it's embarassing to see other black people sitting in front of my apt building (starting at 6pm when the building manager leaves for the day), smoking you know what, and possibly bringing a 'drive by' to my home. THAT SAID, I still see people jogging (AT NIGHT) in Rogers Park and I live near Howard Street. On my end of Rogers Park, I still see a 'mix' of people not just black people toting guns. I still see the young 'hipster' folks (Google 'hipster' for those who don't know what that's about), out and about in the neighborhood. Loyola University has expanded. No more black folks standing on the corners of Pratt & Sheridan Road. Go over there at 7PM-10PM at night, you see young white college students around. Loyola University is slowly bringing THAT PART of Rogers Park back to civilization. Down on my end, I can't wait til my lease is up. I'm moving back to Diversey & Clark no matter how high the rent is. I'm a single, black woman, with no children, who WORK FULL-TIME. I'm on the verge of moving to Seattle,WA where some of my family has lived since the 60's.

I grew up around blacks and the mother used to tell her son next door to "get off your ashy ass and clean up your room", etc. I never experienced an "ashy ass" live in person until moving to Chicago decades later.
