25-year-old Derek Ross Fierro, a Chicago public school teacher who reportedly admitted to killing his own dog, once called his dead pet dumb... and now the evidence has been deleted!
Friday morning, around 3:43 a.m., Fierro made a frantic 911 call after he beat his dog to death is his East Lakeview neighborhood apartment on the 500 block of West Roscoe Street, said police.
According to various news reports, the Eugene Field Elementary school teacher became enraged when his dog, Queso, ate "every piece of paper" in his apartment and soiled himself.
Citing police dispatch reports, Fierro put the dead dog's body in the truck of his car, called the cops, and waited for authorities at a nearby Starbucks.
Late Friday evening, Derek Ross Fierro's Facebook profile, listed under profile number 7936041, was permanently deleted.
At first glance, the page seemed pretty harmless... but after reviewing its contents from a prosecutorial standpoint, we understand why Fierro's profile was removed from the internet.
Among other things, the page contained several adorable photos of Fierro's dog. One pic showed the yellow lab/chow mix sleeping on a pillow on the backseat of a car.
Another photo of the pooch included a caption where Fierro referred to the dog as stupid, because the pet, who was given the name Doc by the Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation and later renamed Queso by his new owner, seldom responded to his new name.
We can't recall the teacher's exact words, but they were something like, "My dog has the most crookedest ears and he is too dumb to know his own name."
On the surface, Fierro's comments about his dog's lack of intelligence may seem innocuous, but in light of what happened, they may have been a sign that Fierro was losing his patience with an animal that obviously needed a lot of love.

ReplyDeleteAnd how well did Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation screen to make sure both dog and owner were a good match? Rescued animals come with a lot of issues, both health and emotional. If this guy is a first-time pet owner, he should have received some counseling or guidance about adopting an animal from a known abused background. It's unfortunate this happened, but we should look to what contributed to its death and what can be done to improve the adoption system.

Unfortunately, your friend is an idiot and doesn't know how to care for dogs. There isn't more to the story. He went out, got wasted, neglected to care for his dog, came home and noticed the dog, who had not been let out for hours and probably not taken for a walk of more than a block in months had soiled itself because dogs cannot hold it in that long and need to be cared for and not neglected. It at the paper, because it's owner didn't leave enough food out for it. The only stupid one here is the guy that doesn't know how to care for a dog. If this was a friend of mine, I would never be able to speak to or look at him again. ReplyDeleteThe real tragedy is ongoing... Pets are beaten to death every single day, or they suffer and die of neglect every single day. (Ever watch Animal Cops?) We just happened to learn of this instance because the killer turned himself in. Everyone should be on the lookout for pets who suffer defenselessly at the hands of stupid and cruel owners, and then do something about it. I wonder how many people knew that this guy's dog was being abused over the past 9 months?!?!

I'm not shocked by this, I'm concerned and I'm curious. I think Chicago Canine Rescue should be investigated and held accountable for putting the dog with a full-time graduate student AND teacher who lived ALONE. How could he manage a puppy? CCR are fools for thinking they can hide behind the "he was an elementary school teacher" act. I would not adopt from their organization until they were investigated and had restructured their adoption process.

unfortunately, this dog seemed to be an accessory, not a pet. many people buy or adopt dogs because they think they want one. They pass others walking their dogs, and say...oh i'd look good at one end of that leash. I think I'll get one. It will be fun to come home to a loving dog, it will make my lonely existence in this big city tolerable. But then...the dog has needs. All day long, every day.

But the dog was communicating his needs they only way he knew how. If he won't take me for a walk, I'll use the paper. Oh no paper?
