According to police dispatch reports, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. at 2739 West Devon Avenue, between Fairfield and California.
Business records confirm the address belongs to an Indian restaurant called Biryani's.
Najam Zaidi, the owner, was sitting on his stool when two Hispanic males entered his business.
One male said he wanted to sell Zaidi a cell phone, but the owner wasn't interested.
"When I tried to get up from my seat, he pushed me back down and stole two charity boxes," said the owner, to Chicago News Report.
Both suspects were wearing dark-colored, possibly black hoodies.

Last night, an officer at the scene said the suspect is approximately 6'5".
At the time of this report, the offenders, who were last seen running northbound on Fairfield, were still at large.
