Purse stolen from downtown hotel tracked to South Side


A woman’s purse containing a cell phone with a GPS tracking device, was stolen from a downtown Chicago hotel Thursday, October 13, 2011, around 9:48 p.m.

According to police, the theft or robbery occurred at Hotel 71, 71 East Wacker Drive.

The offender was described as a black woman, 35 to 40-years-old, 5’7”, and 180 pounds.

She was last seen wearing all black clothing and carrying a tan leather bag. The bag was stolen from the hotel, said police.

At 10:29 p.m., police tracked the thief to a location on the 5000 block of South Cottage Grove. There is a strip mall at that location.

At 10:36 p.m., the offender moved to the 5400 block of South State Street.

At 10:41 p.m., the suspect was clocked on the 6000 block of South Michigan Avenue.

The last GPS reading put the thief on the 300 block of West 64th Street, around 10:52 p.m.

It’s unclear if police ever made contact with the suspect.
