Haunted Rogers Park funeral home?

Was it a ghost or a trespasser?

A concerned citizen called police after the lights came on in a vacant funeral home in Rogers Park.

The spooky, late night incident was reported Saturday, around 11:13 p.m.

At approximately 11:16 p.m., police arrived at the now empty Weinstein Funeral Home at 1300 West Devon Avenue.

An officer at the scene said the windows and doors were secure, but a light was definitely on inside the funeral home.

Police dispatch contacted the previous owner.

The prior owner said they no longer have access to building, and as far as they know, no one should be inside.

According to the Cook County Assessor’s Office, the funeral home was established 72 years ago in 1930.

  4. Yea, I heard the call on my police scanner. This was one where you could tell it was driving the officer bonkers. No signs that anyone had gotten in and it had been empty for at least a year, if not longer.

They had no way of contacting the current owners (the former owners didn't have that information).

  5. Anonymous Oct 16, 6:38 p.m., one explanation is that the new owners may have a timer on one of the light switches. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

  6. I drive past this funeral home every day. Very creepy. I wouldn't want to be near it at night!
