Child shot during Halloween 'Latin King' gang shooting
According to a preliminary report, a 9 or 10-year-old child was shot in the leg near Lawrence and California Avenues around 10 p.m.
One report said the shooting happened underneath a bridge near the Albany Park neighborhood border, on the east side of the Chicago River.
The shooter was described as a large Hispanic man with a ponytail, carrying a backpack.
The gunman shouted, “King love!”, as he fired the shots, said bystanders.
After the shooting, eyewitnesses saw a group of children on the bridge trying to flag down passing motorists.
As of 10:30 p.m., the child’s condition is unknown.
If more information becomes available, this article will be updated accordingly.
UPDATE: According to the Chicago Tribune, the shooting occurred on the 3000 block of West Argyle Street. The child was taken to Children's Memorial Hospital.
