VIDEO: CTA bus driver, passenger dispute; stroller vs wheelchair

Tempers flared when a CTA bus driver asked a female passenger to move her stroller to accommodate another passenger in a wheelchair.

The shouting match was caught on tape and posted to YouTube on August 26, 2011.

It's unclear on which CTA bus the incident occurred.

However, toward the end of the footage, the automated CTA announcement system said the next stop was 73rd Street.

For the duration of the two minutes and forty-eight seconds long video, the women engage in a war of words.

"Would you please be quiet?" asked the bus driver, after instructing the passenger to move her stroller.

"You be quiet! I ain't gotta be quiet! Sh*t! What you gone do? Call the motherf**king police?" yelled the irate passenger.

It was all down hill from there.

Neither the bus driver, nor the passenger, seem to care about upsetting the other commuters - not to mention the child in the stroller.

  1. Parents with strollers have huge entitlement complexes. Isn't it enough you get a tax deduction?

  2. Usually the deal is the kid in the stroller is big enough to walk by him/herself without Mommy's help. I'm somewhat handicapped myself and refuse to give up my seat to a moon buggy stroller with two able-bodied toddlers in it.

  4. In my opinion.. I can't see where the passenger did anything wrong there is no law saying we can't bring anything large onto the bus so until they change that law the passengers are within their right to bring onto the bus anything that is not against the law. It was the Bus Diver who started in on the passenger first by calling her NASTY! The Bus Driver acted in a very unprofessional way! Whatever happend to customers come first? I think the Driver was having a BAD day or maybe she just can't deal with the public and need to seek employment somewhere else!!!

  5. CTA has rules regarding what can and can't be brought on to the bus. Stroller's are encouraged to use the wheel chair area to help keep aisle's passable but if a wheel chair needs the space the stroller should move, if the bus becomes crowded an automated announcement can be played by the Operator stating that when the Bus becomes crowded the stroller should be folded. Any large package or object ,such as luggage, a chair or large box, must be kept out of the aisle to assure there is no tripping hazard. Gasoline and car batteries are strictly forbidden.

  6. Pure foolishness! I personally don't understand why the driver was arguing with the passenger. CTA has a policy in place that allows drivers to request that parents fold their strollers when needed. If I was the driver I simply would have asked that either the passenger move or fold the stroller and if I got push back I simply would called the Police and had the passenger removed. End of story!

  8. I think that CTA bus driver has anger issues. Why is she flipping out like that? I think she overreacted.

  9. The first thing that I'm going to say is that I'm a cta driver. Strollers ARE NOT encouraged by cta to use the spaces that are designated for seniors and people with disabilities, the people with the strollers just took it upon themselves to start doing so. Yes it is easier to have the stroller not blocking the isle because that is unsafe for the baby AND the passengers trying to squeeze past it! I don't not condone the way the driver conducted herself but I can sympathize with the situation because I've seen and experienced many people refusing to move whether it was someone with a lot of bags, with a shopping cart or a mother with one of those huge strollers. And the situation is completely unwarrented because there shouldn't even be an arguement: THAT SPACE IS FOR SENIORS And people with disabilties that's it that's all! We truly go back to the way it used to be when drivers didn't even permit you to cross the threshold of the bus before telling you to collapse the stroller....omg that is such a safety hazard!

  10. I am a rider on the buses and I agree that these strollers are way too much. Some of these people with strollers don't realize that this is PUBLIC transportation. That means it's here to serve the public, not just you. Why would block the aisle so people couldn't get by? If the driver ask you to move because someone has priority, why not move? It's obvious this lady with the stroller is ignorant. I don't even understand what the argument is about? The driver asked you to move and your mad?!

  11. The entitlement mentality is alive and well in this city. What a great parent she makes. Another fine example of what we can expect from this mother. More of the same disrespect, entitlement and loud mouth behavior for her child. That bus driver has to put up with a whole lot of crap from these bottom feeders. I say the bus driver should have just thrown her ass off the bus. Maybe just sat there UNTIL that lazy ass mother moved. Maybe she should have just called the police. Those cadillac strollers, or any stroller for that matter, are a safety issue for ALL the riders. This was NOT ALLOWED back in the day, but then people had more respect, consideration and much better behavior then as well. Many thanks to the parents of these scum who DID NOT TEACH their offspring manners, humanity or respect...NOT!

  12. There are rule that the passager as well as the bus driver should follow, but in the instance the passager was wrong. She should have just move the stroller without the exchange of any words. Sometime people with those big stroller do get in the way. Just move out the way already dang.

  13. If other passengers would just get involved and tell the stroller wench to shut up and sit down already, I'll bet she would have. When other passengers just bend their heads like turtles and let things happen around them, that's when stupid loud dumb people get their way, and make a very unpleasant trip for everyone. The driver should have called CPD, and I would have if I had been there. Bad behavior gets you put off the bus, end of story. You wonder why bus drivers go a little crazy sometimes!

  14. What I don't understand is who climbs on top of and make babies with these foul-mouthed, digustingly obese women. Not only would I not get an erection, my penis would actually try to go back inside my body at the sight of her naked.

  15. Its a good thing that they were both black because otherwise, this would have been a RACIAL INCIDENT. The driver would have been deemed to be wrong and in need of diversity training since she failed to recognize the unique bond between an African-American mother and her child. She would have also been reprimanded for not communicating in an effective manner by virtue of the fact that she was not well-versed in the subtle nuances of Ebonics.

  16. They're both black women, end of story - nothing new here. Studies have shown that blacks have the highest self-esteem of all races - this is what we see in the video.

  17. Typical orangutan behavior. My latest thought on how to facilitate segragation of these baboons from the rest of us(of ALL colors!) is to give the Islamic black national movement a part of the country, then begin to extradite all criminals of the spooks to that so called 'country'; then, maybe those most austere commanding black nationalists could deal with them-maybe put em to work. This would create a recognizable line where our leaders could meet with 'them',and deal with them as a foriegn country. Would it possibly work? Just a suggestion;they obviously cannot integrate with civilization as it is defined,so some such drastic solution must be found if we are to continue asAmerican culture that we all remember & love so well.
