Fire at North Side apartment building, 1 in serious condition


At 2:46 a.m., a fire was reported at a 4-story apartment building in Chicago’s North Side, Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Police and firefighters raced to a building on the 4700 block of North Virginia Avenue, near Virginia and Lawrence Avenue, to battle the blaze.

According to one source, the exact location of the fire is 4764 North Virginia Avenue.

A man, who was trapped in a 1st floor or ground-level apartment, was badly burned in the fire, said a dispatch report.

An officer at the scene confirmed a patient was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, in serious condition. However, the officer did not explain the man's injuries.

According to additional information provided by the Chicago Tribune, the victim may be a 45-year-old CTA bus driver. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

  1. That area isn't really Lincoln Square, it's more like Rockwell Crossing or Ravenswood Manor.
