The burglar took several items from the Lakeview home, but he dropped his loot while he was being pursued, said authorities.

Hot on the suspect’s heels, the burglary victim trailed the offender to the CTA Belmont station at 949 West Belmont Avenue.

Soon, a CTA employee joined the hunt.

The CTA employee and the homeowner chased the suspect to the Belmont "L" platform, but when they reached the top of the stairs, the offender had disappeared.

According to the victim, the thief is a black man with a medium build and is approximately 5’10”. He was last seen wearing a New York Yankee baseball cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt with black sleeves, and blue jeans.

  1. The redesigned, wider Belmont and Fullerton station entrances allow thieves to move very quickly up and down steps, and to alternate platforms. Not to mention that it opens commuters up to the danger of being knocked down the stairwells, as happened fatally at Fullerton.
