Around 8:17 p.m., police responding to a disturbance call, raced to a Near North Side restaurant.
A “Pakistani” man in a long green coat with a black and white scarf around his neck, was inside Baba Palace at 334 West Chicago Avenue, threatening the customers, said police.
The 911 caller said the man appeared to be mentally unstable.
At approximately 8:21 p.m., police apprehended the alleged offender at the corner of West Oak and North Orleans Streets - several blocks north of Baba Palace.
Wednesday, February 9, 2011, a customer who was denied service, allegedly threatened to burn the Baba Palace restaurant down. First, the disgruntled man purportedly splashed urine behind the counter near the register. Police were called to the scene.
After the police left, the man returned. This time he was reportedly carrying a canister filled with gasoline.
In a CBS news video, the offender is seen wrestling with a customer who was credited with preventing the man from lighting the restaurant on fire.

EXCELLENT job by police to thwart this evil doer.
ReplyDelete"a customer who was credited with preventing the man from lighting the restaurant on fire.".....Kudos to this customer for being alert and responding quickly. Wonder if he was really an off duty officier or maybe an undercover cop? Whomever it was, we should all step to the plate to stop some of these crimes, if we can...."Granny" comes to mind;)
ReplyDeleteIt's also amazing to me just how many of these mentally unstable people are walking around unchecked and a danger to not only themselves but to everyone else as well. We have dropped the ball on these people.
Cops ALL OVER this place called the "magnificent mile" this afternoon. Obviously someone is listening (or reading).
ReplyDelete"Mentally unstable"? Those people are no more crazier than you or I. They're smart enough to profile Whitey and make assumptions. They love playing the game and Chicago and it's suburanites are non the wiser, hence their very strong presence.
When I my lose my job in Chicago, I've got first hand experience on how to survive (large) while collecting gub'ment cheese at the same time.
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves ? :)
ReplyDeleteI know the guy that tried to burn down the place _-_
ReplyDeleteIdk about that dude sometimes
