The story reads like a scene out of a brutal horror film. Jarringly, the movie, Saw, comes to mind. Gay men bound and gag, sexually assaulted, and tortured beyond belief.
Police have 8 suspects in custody: Idelfonso Mendez, 23; Ruddy Vargas-Perez, 22; David Rivera, 21; Steven Caraballo, 17; Denis Peitars, 17; Nelson Falu, 17; Bryan Almonte, 17; and Elin Brayon Cepeda, 16.
These shining examples of humanity were charged with kidnapping, sodomy, robbery, and hate crimes.
Police say the suspects, who are reportedly part of a Bronx gang called the Latin King Goonies, allegedly beat their purportedly gay victims with chains, forced the handle of a small baseball bat and a toilet plunger up their rectums, and burned their penises with cigarettes. Reports indicate the torture went on for nearly 48 hours.
The despicable incident occurred on Oct. 3, 2010, at an abandoned building at 1910 Osborne Place in Morris Heights. A building many residents have been complaining about for some time.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Many thanks to the Chicago News Report reader who brought this story to my attention.
