The incident, which was reported around 12:28 a.m., occurred in the Budlong Woods neighborhood, near the intersection of North Lincoln and West Summerdale Avenues.
The crime happened less than two blocks south of the 20th district police station, located at 5400 North Lincoln Avenue.
Three Hispanic males wearing baggy, black and gold-colored clothing, "jumped" the victim, said police.
After the attack, the offenders fled westbound on Summerdale, said authorities.
At the time of this report, the motive for the apparent gang attack was unclear.

A few minutes past midnight, cops were searching for a man who allegedly threatened a security guard in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood.
Around 12:03 a.m., a security officer on the 4900 block of North Sheridan Road, said a man threatened him with a metal pole.
The offender was described as a white male wearing a dirty, gray hat, a beige coat, and black pants.
The suspect was last seen headed northbound from Sheridan and Argyle.
