Around 8:49 p.m., two black males, 15 to 16-years-old, attacked a man near the intersection of West Pratt Boulevard and North Bosworth Avenue, said police.
According to investigators, the suspects, who were trying to steal the man’s bike, struck the victim several times.
After the failed crime, the young criminals fled southbound on Bosworth from Pratt.
One offender was wearing a red shirt and his hair was braided.
The other mugger was dressed in a white shirt.
Both suspects were wearing blue jeans.

Shortly after police were called to Pratt and Bosworth, a fight erupted at a neighbor convenience store, west of Chicago’s Edgewater Glenn neighborhood.
Citing police dispatch reports, a “big fight” went down inside PK’s Pantry, 6128 North Ravenswood Avenue.
A source close to the situation said someone accidentally bumped into a woman in the company of two men.
In response, the two men started shoving the person who accidentally touched the woman, said the tipster.
By 8:53 p.m., all parties involved had left the scene.
At 9:15 p.m., people attending a BBQ near Touhy and Sheridan, were suddenly running for their lives when gunshots pierced the air.
An officer in the area reported the gunfire after he observed several people running eastbound from Touhy and Sheridan, headed toward Lake Michigan.
Investigators later determined the people were running, because they were frightened by the gunshots.
Witnesses described the shooters as two Hispanic males in a Champagne-colored Yukon.
The alleged shooters were wearing tank tops, said police.
No injuries were reported.

ReplyDeleteAs a previous poster mentioned, Loyola has had to fence and barricade the campus from the surrounding deteriorating Rogers Park neighborhood, much as the University of Chicago in Hyde Park and Marquette in Milwaukee have had to do.
ReplyDeleteTo think that at one time Rogers Park was considered quiet and boring filled with retired Jewish folks. I went to Loyola in the early 70s, and a single person could walk the streets at 2:00 am (after having had one too many beers) and not even have a second thought. Now Loyola has turned itself into an armed camp, with security galore.... they've had to, unfortunately.

As the kidnappers pulled into a quiet, upscale golf course community, they thought they were about to abduct an assistant district attorney who sent a high-ranking gang member to prison for life, authorities said.
But they had the wrong address and when the prosecutor's father answered the door, they took him instead.
For five days, authorities said the kidnappers held 63-year-old Frank Janssen captive in an Atlanta apartment, tormenting his family by sending text messages threatening to cut him into pieces if police were called or their demands weren't met. They even sent a photo of him tied up in a chair.
On Tuesday, an indictment charged nine people in Janssen's abduction, including 49-year-old Bloods member Kelvin Melton, who authorities said was calling the shots by cellphone from his North Carolina prison cell. Janssen's daughter, Wake Forest assistant district attorney Colleen Janssen, prosecuted Melton in 2012 for his role in the shooting of his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.
Court records show Melton has a long record of felony convictions in New York, the first being a 1979 robbery committed when he was 14. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery in 1998 and served more than 13 years in New York prisons before being released in August 2011.
His conviction in North Carolina sent him to prison for life. Authorities said he wanted revenge.
At first, Melton wanted the kidnappers to travel to Louisiana to abduct a family member of his court-appointed attorney from his 2012 trial. He arranged in March for each member of that kidnapping team to receive about $10,000, according to the indictment, but at some point, for reasons not explained in court documents, they called it off.
