The incident, which occurred 10 minutes prior to the victim contacting police, was reported at 8:51 a.m. on the 1000 block of West Ainslie Street, near Ainslie and Sheridan Road.
The thief was described as a short, black male in his 20s wearing a white T-shirt.
The crook was last seen running northbound through a nearby alley.
A responding officer requested an ambulance, because the victim needed “a little first aid”.
