Cop injured during South Side foot chase

A Chicago police officer, in pursuit of a suspect, was injured on the city’s South Side, said authorities.

At 5:07 p.m., police responded to a suspicious person call on the 6700 block of South Maplewood Avenue, near Maplewood and West 68th Street.

According to a 911 caller, three black males pulled their shirts over their heads as they walked into a nearby gangway.

At 5:08 p.m., officers patrolling the area spotted a possible suspect running through an alley on the 6900 block of South Maplewood Avenue.

The suspect was described as a tall, black male wearing a white tank top.

Somehow, during an apparent foot chase, a perusing officer injured his wrist.

The officer’s partner said he believed his partner’s wrist was broken.

The injured officer could be heard screaming in pain over the police radio.

The wounded officer was transported to Christ Hospital for medical treatment, according to police dispatch.

At 5:21 p.m., the suspect, who was last seen running through a yard on the 6500 block of South Rockwell Street, was apprehended at an unspecified location.

No further details are available.
