Cops: Man robbed outside Lakeview bank

A customer leaving a North Side bank was robbed at gunpoint, said police.

The armed robbery occurred around 8:28 p.m. outside the Bank of America at 3718 North Southport Avenue, near Southport and Waveland, said authorities.

Two male Hispanics approached the victim from behind and stuck a gun is his back, said police.

According to investigators, the thieves stole the man’s wallet containing several hundred dollars and his credit cards.

The crooks, who are believed to be in their 20s and were wearing black jackets, fled the scene southbound on Southport, then westbound on Waveland, said police.

At the time of this report, the armed thieves were still at large.

  6. I was renting a condo in the "fancy" area of Lakeview. I don't know where these people think they still live but you could pop that original "pretty" main glass pane door open with a wash cloth wrapped around your hand and into the individual units (with 1950's locks on the doors) within seconds and with ease. I moved and now have to punch a code to get through an iron security gate to the courtyard, through another very secure door and to an apartment door with proper deadbolts. I feel so much more at ease in the ghetto fabulousness.

  7. After having to move out of several Chicagoland neighborhoods due to change & crime..the stress& fear of being broken into, mugged, I had it!I moved downtown to an unaffordable condo with high assessments, just to feel safer, to have a doorman for security! Now my neighborhood has roaming mobs on Michigan Ave. on warm evenings..the Water Tower is now a ghetto mall. Talk about change!
