Canceled! Chicago loses G-8 Summit, event moves to Camp David

In a statement released by the White House, it was announced that the G-8 Summit will be held at Camp David, not in Chicago.

"In May, the United States looks forward to hosting the G-8 and NATO Summits.

To facilitate a free-flowing discussion with our close G-8 partners, the President is inviting his fellow G-8 leaders to Camp David on May 18-19 for the G-8 Summit, which will address a broad range of economic, political and security issues.

The President will then welcome NATO allies and partners to his hometown of Chicago for the NATO Summit on May 20-21, which will be the premier opportunity this year for the President to continue his efforts to strengthen NATO in order to ensure that the Atlantic Alliance remains the most successful alliance in history, while charting the way forward in Afghanistan."

Because extreme protestors seem to follow the summit wherever it goes, many Chicagoans expressed their concerns about the strain the event would put on the city's police department.

  2. That kind of rioting would never happen here in Chicago. The CPD would be shooting into the crowd in the first 10 minutes.

  4. Thank god that its gone, but I have a feeling the NATO will be a huge shitstorm anyway. As long as there is SOMETHING to protest, these people are going to show up. I think lots of groups have already made plans to come to chicago that week...

    1. Agreed. If anything this makes the whole situation worse cause the protesters will make extreme sure their voices are heard all the way to Camp David while still simultaneously going after NATO.

  5. Looks like the protesters will have to wear their Lenin 5 Star Red T Shirts somewhere else now.

  6. I bet all the change in my sofa that the Blacks would have ruined it. Just look at Taste of Chicago.

  7. The blacks will ruin it. Some will actually join the protest, others will stalk the downtown area looking for victims, and the ones that dont care to leave their habitat will be able to cause more crime while the police are all downtown.

If things really get violent, they are sure to loot stores and burn down their neighborhoods again...

  8. Thank goodness at least one of those got cancelled!

Usually, the G8 has much worst protestors than NATO - the G8 is an economic summit, while NATO focuses on defense. Though I highly doubt the professional protestors & anarchists, along with their new friends they made "occupying" things last summer & fall, care about (or are even aware of) the differences between the two.

But I still agree with other posters that not only will the protestors still be present & loud, but that the local terrorists (south side 12-30 y/o blacks) will attempt to take advantage of limited police resources in neighborhoods & cause destruction. Hopefully, the police presence in the loop & Michigan Avenue areas is strong, to deter their activities from there.
