Authorities received multiple reports of power outages in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood on the city’s North Side.
At 3:45 p.m., a citizen on the 5800 block of North Sheridan Road reported a loud boom or an explosion. Moments later, the 911 caller’s lights went out, said police dispatch.
Additional reports coming from the vicinity of Bryn Mawr and Kenmore Avenues indicated an electrical transformer exploded in the area.
Power outages were also reported on the 5600 block of North Kenmore, the 1000 block of West Ardmore, and the 1000 block of West Thorndale, said police.
Traffic signals at Sheridan and Hollywood were knocked out by the “explosion”, as well, said officials.
