1 killed in Rogers Park Northshore Apartments fire

A tenant was killed in a fire at a North Side, Rogers Park apartment building early Wednesday morning.

Around 2:48 a.m., police and firefighters raced to a 7-story apartment building at 6633 North Sheridan Road, near Sheridan and North Shore.

According to police dispatch, smoke and flames were shooting from the 6th floor at the Northshore Apartments.

When officers arrived, they observed several tenants looking out the windows.

An Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 was immediately activated.

Citing preliminary reports, all the units were evacuated except for two apartments on the 7th floor.

Police repeatedly knocked on the apartment doors, but there was no answer, said a responding officer.

Evacuated tenants were temporarily placed in the lobbies of several nearby buildings until a warming bus arrived.

According to investigators, Omar Garcia, a tenant in apartment 607, died in the fire.

  1. Sad. But why are there so many fires in the apartment buildings around there?

  2. Because social service agencies place their clients there.
There was a fire at a place on Wilson because some moron looked for something under his bed not with a flashlight, but a lighter. A lot of people's property was damaged forever as a result of the, I think they should have been legally allowed to beat him to a pulp over that.
Or they put a pizza in the oven drunk and pass out.
    You get the idea.

  3. The misguided and ill-conceived practice of housing mental patients and drug addicts and drunks and other section 8 losers in apartment buildings with normal people is outrageous and dangerous.

  5. Anon @ 2:46 - I kinda knew this. Just wanted to confirm. They're trying to mix Section 8 with "market rate" residents in Lakeview as well. I'm not doing it.

  7. You have several legal options, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, tactical pen. The last one is pretty brutal if you know how to use it, there's videos available.

  8. Tigers "bat day" souvenier circa. 1975. Very, very hard wood. Fits conveniently in your carry pouch. The west side was willing to pay for it. There's always CCW to bring peace, love, soul, liberal loonland aka Chicago into reality and up to par with the rest of the nation as well. I'm truly anti-gun but you'd have some "civilization" here with them in the hands of the law abiding citizens.

Plan B? Return to where you came from where people of all colors, creeds, religions, sexual orientations.....know how to act.....cuz it ain't here "sanctuary city".

  9. There is some guy on UU that is a pepper spray expert. He reccomended a lot of brands a while back. As I remember his favorites were: Bear Mace, and Fox Labs brand pepper spray. A few of the sprays made by Fox Labs have a colored dye in them that stain the perp for several days. It probably makes it a lot easier for police to sort through the thugs looking for one with green dye on his face!
