'Elderly' woman struck by Loyola University shuttle bus in Edgewater

A 93-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was hit by a Loyola University shuttle bus on Chicago’s North Side, said police.

According to police dispatch, the accident occurred around 10:11 a.m., on the 5600 block of North Sheridan Road, near Sheridan and Bryn Mawr in Edgewater.

An officer at the scene said the woman sustained a serious head injury.

An unconfirmed report indicated police asked the bus driver to submit to a breathalyzer.

Authorities apparently had to find another driver to remove the shuttle bus from the scene of the accident.

  1. I am not surprised . The bus drivers are crazy and they drive like maniacs. They will hit cars and people alike.

  3. Hope she's o.k. I think the only time I've ever called the CTA to complain about a bus driver was in that area. She blatantly blew right through a red light on Berwyn/Sheridan and almost hit me while crossing.

Yes, watch those CTA drivers - some just do not care. At least they could blow their horn when they KNOW they're going to do it.

  4. Hello - read again - NOT CTA, it was a Loyola SHUTTLE. Not that complaints against CTA aren't valid, but this news has nothing to do with CTA. Try comprehension people.

  5. Regardless Loyola, Northwestern, Medical, and CTA bus drivers all drive bad and will mow you down and won't think twice.

  6. Loyola, Northwestern and Sacred Heart school buses should have to go down Broadway, period. Sheridan Rd is not wide enough for all those buses and the traffic is bad enough without adding buses to the mix. Same goes for trucks(rigs). The speed limit is 35...NONE of them do that. The walk signs are not long enough to accommodate healthy younger people let alone the elderly. Oh, and don't get me started about the motorcycles, they literally race down Sheridan. One of the best pedestrian and bike friendly cities in the country? Really, what part of Chicago would that be in?

  7. @T. once again you are right. There is literally no room for buses on Sheridan. Sheridan road should be widen into a 4 lane super road and needs a serious designated turning lane. Any person who rides their bike down Sheridan needs their head examine. Peds. take their lives in their own hands when they cross that road too.

  8. The title of that report was changed. Not sure if it mentioned CTA before but it didn't mention Loyola shuttle bus.

I never got the pedestrian friendly thing here either. If it's not a person doing a right-on-red nearly killing you (I'm quite tall and visible), it's a taxi driver or even the damn CPD doing that brake nudge thing nearly hitting you while they're waiting at a red light. It's gotta be a psychological condition that they can't just keep their foot on the brake until the light changes. I told that cop it's bad enough the taxi drivers do it and I can't wait to do it to his Mother when she's crossing the street.

  9. And I wouldn't even THINK of riding a bike on any of these streets other than the lakefront path and that's bad enough. You can get auto insurance in this state with no driver's license progressives.

  10. "The title of that report was changed. Not sure if it mentioned CTA before but it didn't mention Loyola shuttle bus."

You're right. I was changed. Initially, police said it was a CTA bus. Then someone else said it was a Loyola shuttle bus.

I changed the title to "Elderly woman struck by bus..." until I could confirm which bus actually hit her.
