Cabdriver reports Near North Side robbery, offenders may be CHA residents

A taxi driver passing through Chicago’s Near North Side neighborhood dialed 911 after he heard a man screaming for help; Chicago News Report has a hunch that the alleged muggers are locals.

At approximately 3:54 a.m., a cabdriver heard a man calling for the police near the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and North Kingsbury Street.

About two minutes later, around 3:56 a.m., responding officers located the victim a block east of the aforementioned location at Chicago and Hudson Avenues.

Reportedly, the victim was attacked and robbed by two male blacks dressed in all black clothing.

According to an officer at the scene, the offenders were last seen running northbound on Cambridge from Chicago Avenue, toward the remaining Cabrini-Green row houses.

Police, along with the victim, searched the immediate area, but it’s unclear if authorities apprehended the suspects.

Back in September 2011, it was announced that the remaining 33 families in the Cabrini-Green row houses had 180 days, which is approximately 6 months, to find someplace else to terrorize call home.

It looks like Uptown will be getting some new residents in March.

  1. Keep the projects up. We need to rid of section 8 housing because it is destroying the north side. At least with the projects up, we knew were these animals lived; now these animals are scattered throughout our city.

  2. They may have to move but the government will get them subsidized housing somewhere. You may be paying up the kazoo for your own housing but your next door neighbors will be getting it for free. Since they're always loitering they know the schedules of everyone in their area, setting you up for a burglary while you're at work. Drug dealing and mugging are also popular sidelines when money runs low.

  3. Section 8 should be a place, not a subculture...perhaps an island in lake michigan? A colony within the deep tunnel?

  4. Hopefully the Republicans will eliminate section 8.

  5. I live near Cabrini Green area. We purchased our condo few years ago. We both work full-time. I constantly see those people from the row houses. I feel it is crazy that so many physically fit people just spend their days doing absolutely nothing, it's ridiculous. The government needs to stop raising criminals by letting them live for free!
