Report: Rampant discrimination against transgender blacks leads to poverty, crime

Recently, it seems Chicago is experiencing a rash of North Side robberies involving black offenders who are either drag queens, transgender, or cross dressers.

One report may shed some light on this situation.

The "Injustice at Every Turn: A Report of the National Transgender Discrimination Survey", conducted by several LGBT organizations, suggests rampant discrimination is the leading cause of poverty among transgender African Americans; and may be responsible the group's overwhelming involvement in crimes such as prostitution, robbery, and shoplifting.

An estimated 6,500 transgender Americans were surveyed and according to researchers, transgender blacks are more likely to face widespread discrimination when it comes to employment, housing, education, police services, and in the judicial system.

Furthermore, the study indicates that 53% of respondents claim to have been verbally harassed or disrespected in places like hotels, restaurants, buses, airports, and government agencies.

  1. Who cares? They may not have chosen to be gay but they chose to dress and act the way they do.

Oh, I know "transgendered" has nothing to do with their orientation, yadda, yadda but they are nothing but freakish crossdressers.

How many of these "disrespected" "transgendereds" were throwing a hissy fit and causing a scene at those hotels, airports, restaurants disrupting business for others? And they're doing a great job of showing what upstanding community citizens they are in Chicago, right? No sympathy here.

You're more than welcome to hire one in your office but they won't be in mine and I'm gay. Act respectable and you'll be respected. They want to live the dream of gay eternal adolescence with Halloween 24/7/365. There's a price for it.

There are honest, hardworking people losing their jobs and homes in this country at this minute.

What's next? Gerbils facing extinction cause widespread panic? Bathhouses face shut-down after proven to spread STD's and social disorders?

  2. Is it really discrimination when the person is hostile, obnoxious, and violent? Perhaps the contempt from them stems from their behavior and not their race/gender.

  3. I kind of agree with both posters here. Another point, it's very very easy for someone to say in a survey, "I was discriminated against," especially since its something that is so difficult to prove.

If you ask me, concluding that self-reported (on a survey!) discrimination against these "victims" leads them to poverty and thus, prostitution, violent crime, etc is unhealthy & dubious.

Frankly, this smells to me like the old "Tail wagging the dog," as in, some people had a conclusion created that they wanted to prove, and used a "survey" to support their conclusion. Hope that makes sense, I know I'm rambling a little bit this morning.

  4. Once again it is everyone else's fault that their life sucks. What a joke. Most of the one's I've met throughout my life were straight-up crackheads prostituting themselves to pay for their drugs and hormone injections.

  5. Anon @ 2:38. I posted earlier. I've never "met" one. I'm a good judge of character and knew to keep a distance.

  6. While I wonder if some of the robbery's occurring in Boystown are actually being committed by transgenders and not just the latest disguise, I do think transgender people need to stop acting like diva's and curb their behavior. They are an embarrassment and disruptive. On the other hand, if they are being discriminated against, maybe they're not screaming loud enough like some other groups we all know do.

  7. Bullcrap! I have worked in several call centers (telemarketing, phone surveys, customer service) that had a LOT of gay and trans people working there. I was one of the only straight men there!
They pay pretty well and would hire any of these people if they would just drop the attitude.

  8. It's so easy to pass judgement on other's when you don't live in their shoes. It's a known fact that minorities have it hardest. Think for a second what you'd do if you were discriminated against for just being you.

Most of these trans people can't make a normal living honestly due to discrimination by employers. I've witnessed it. It's also wrong to get profiled and harassed by police who are supposed to be there to help.

We all know if your not the so called "Norm" then you get the short end of the stick. We live in a so called "Free Country" meaning we should all live the way we please with out harassment. But again that only applies to the majority in the US. Mostly whites. And sadly most of them have zero idea of the world beyond their "Inherited privilege".

Are the crimes some of them commit wrong?? Yes but again if your basic rights are abused and your left to fend for self then these are the results.

  9. I grew up in government subsidized housing in a single parent home and am "White" (as you call it here). I'm also gay. I am a man and dress like one.

I never really saw color until moving to Chicago with your abundance "neighborhood" classism/racism here. I dated a Mexican guy. Never quite attracted to them but I'm not that shallow and he was somewhat fun, at times. He came to Lakeview where I live and started ranting about that "inherited privilege" crap you all have been brainwashed into and added something "about the people that were born and raised here think they're.....". I reminded him he was "born and raised here too and not only that, had/has a father", requested he leave my home and never spoke to him again.

So much for "diversity" here. I've had about 3 instances of this in Chicago - never in my home state. I'll stick to my own. Thank you. The filth, assumptions, racism, hypocrites in this town have caused me to call my company VP to help me re-locate.
