
The officer-involved shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in an alley behind the 1300 block of North Ashland Avenue.
According to an unconfirmed police dispatch report, the suspect drew his weapon and the officer shot him.
At the time of this report, there was no indication the suspect discharged his weapon.
After the shooting, the gunman dropped his weapon and fled the scene.
The offender was described as a male black, 20 to 25-years-old, wearing a black puffy coat and jeans.
At one point, investigators believed the wounded suspect was hiding in the alley, and were actively looking for a blood trail.
When a preliminary search of the area yielded no results, police immediately called a Plan II, which involves at least two police sergeants and ten patrol cars.
The Chicago police K-9 unit was also called to assist with the search for the offender.
At 2:04 a.m., police dogs searched the alley behind the 1300 block of North Bosworth Avenue.
14 minutes later, officers put a building on the 1300 block of North Bosworth Avenue on lock-down; no one was allowed in or out of the building.
At 2:30 a.m., the injured suspect was apprehended at 1358 North Bosworth, said authorities.
An ambulance was called to the scene.
