Authorities said two black men broke into a home on the 1300 block of West Barry Avenue, near the corner of Barry and Southport.
Once inside, the thieves brandished a knife and stole a safe and a set of keys, said authorities.
One offender is approximately 6-feet-tall, 185 pounds, and has long dreadlocks going down his back. He was wearing a green army fatigue jacket and black pants.
The second suspect is about 5’10”, 200 pounds, and has shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was dressed in all black clothing.
According to an eyewitness, the thieves fled the scene in a compact, white four-door vehicle. The car was last seen traveling eastbound on Nelson Street.
Last year, and earlier this year, there were several home invasions on Barry Avenue.
Holy shit! 1300-1400 Barry is being targeted...I can't figure out why unless it's easy to drive through without being trapped.

ReplyDeleteSounds like the same guy who vandalized the 7-11 on Broadway and Barry. From the descriptions, you would think he'd be easily recognized. Maybe a good old "WANTED" poster with a sketch of the guy is what we need posted all over the area.
ReplyDeleteI suggest the neighbors get together and pool their money to hire a private security force. Maybe we need to protect our selves if the police cannot handle it and are being moved away from our "low crime" areas. Couldn't be too much if a 4 or 5 block area participated - you know, those private licensed guys who weild arms ... That might deter some crime ... Along with conceal carry laws
ReplyDeleteAs of May of last year you can legally own a handgun in your own home, provided you completed the CFP 1 day training course and have a FOID card.
ReplyDeleteHopefully one of these thugs breaks into a house where the homeowner has one and knows how to use it. That may deter this sort of thing.
We all know what happened here and these comments are lewd in themselves even if they seem to be correct he opened up his home to someone and invited one of them over over for whatever reason that is the only reason they could have known about the safe they targeted this man and please be more respectful because we all want to meet people and be trusted and then people trust the wrong people
ReplyDeleteI suggest that IF the Alderman are not doing their job and protecting the community, IF they continue to cater to the ghetto thugs terrorizing our communities by being PC, IF they cannot put bills on the table to change the loitering laws, bills to change the gathering of 10+ to mob action or give up some of that TIF to add more police to the streets, than they need to either lower their salary or VOTE THEM OUT in the next election! The same goes for the mayor and the chief of police. THESE PEOPLE work for US, the taxpaying, hardworking contributing citizens of this city. They are part of the "serve & protect" of all communities!

ReplyDeleteI have lived near the corner of Barry and Southport for a year. It has been a bad year for crime. A rape, more than one home invasion, bums in the alley, etc. etc. When are they going to do something?! This is ridiculous. I do not feel safe to walk from my car to my house at any time of the day.
