Raccoons corner cleaning lady in restroom at Uptown park

A pair of "vicious raccoons" allegedly held a park district employee hostage in a restroom at an Uptown neighborhood park.

Around 9:56 p.m., a frightened woman contacted the police, after the animals reportedly trapped her in the restroom.

One report indicated the fury bandits were causing trouble at a Montrose Harbor comfort station on the 4500 block of North Simonds Drive.

However, the alleged hostage situation most likely occurred at the Cricket Hill comfort station at 4400 North Lake Shore Drive.

According to police, the wayward critters eventually left the scene, leaving the cleaning woman to do her job.

Animal control was notified.

  1. Why is a woman cleaning the park district bathroom at 10:00 at night? Guess there are no brave men around to do it.

Didn't she have a mop to smack the critter?

This animal could fill in for "cujo" for sure:)

  2. Asked to describe the bandits, the cleaning woman said, "well they were wearing masks."

  3. I had one walk into my backyard in Rogers Park last week. I've never seen one around here before, they've always stayed west of Western or closer to the lake.

  4. I used to sit there in the evenings and the raccons never got vicious. I think they were hungry since they weren't able to scrounge for food.
