Apparently, a woman’s dog was fatally wounded at a North Side park.
The woman told police her dog was killed at Pottawattomie Park, 7340 North Rogers Avenue in Rogers Park.
It's unclear when the alleged incident occurred.
The woman's dog was killed by another dog that was off its leash, said one source.
Police are investigating.

I sure hope they get that dog and put it down. That is a vicious animal and I can't imagine watching my dog get attacked and killed in front of my eyes. My little dogs no longer go out now because of people letting their huge dogs off their leashes. They are now "litter trained" because when my 5 year old was 8 weeks old and weighed 3 pounds, the bigger dogs were always trying to attack her so I just decided to look into litter training(without the litter) to protect her & ME! Some people should NOT BE ALLOWED TO OWN A DOG!!!
ReplyDeletePottawattomie is also a playground so NO dogs should be off their leashes there.
Towanda, if you want to get my blood boiling, mention the ignorant pricks who let their dogs off their leads and jeopardize the public's safety!
ReplyDeleteLast summer, I maced a pit bull on the lakefront (near Wilson) when it charged at me! The dog was off its leash and its owner was on his cell phone chatting.
The dog owner had the nerve to get nasty with me, because I maced his dog. When the owner started to approach me, I told him that if he didn't step back, he was going to get something much worse than mace in his face.
The man and his blinded pooched walked off into the sunset, and the dog still wasn't on a leash!!!!
When I walk my pit bull, he is on a reinforced leash and he is right by my side -- not 15-feet-away!!!!! My dog has been properly trained, he does not pull me down the street, and he obeys my every command.
I feel so badly for that woman and her dog.
Towanda, I have never owned a small dog.
ReplyDeleteI pet-sat a Shitsu once, and I held my breath every time I took her for a walk.
During our walks, my dog's presence was usually enough to force irresponsible dog owners to gain control of the dogs, but I still carried a stick, just in case.
I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to someone else's dog, while it was in my care.
I never owned a small dog before either but when we moved to a high rise, we decided small dogs would be best. I never thought about those jerks that let their dogs off their leashes to run wild and what they might think a small dog is. Since ours are white, I guess they think they're sea gulls or something. Our poor dog was so traumatized by the big dogs coming at her that she would shake all over the place and had no desire to go outside after a couple of incidents when I was training her. We have a "potty park" and that's good enough. Sadly, because some pet owners think the parks and beaches are their private backyard, our dogs are "house dogs" for their protection and ours. I love dogs BUT, we have a "curb your dog" ordinance for a reason and dog beaches for a reason, which, btw, a little dog got killed at the Montrose dog beach last year by a husky. Why? Because the pet owner didn't keep an eye on their dog once they let it off the leash. Pathetic!
ReplyDelete"Our poor dog was so traumatized by the big dogs coming at her that she would shake all over the place and had no desire to go outside..."
ReplyDeleteThat really made me sad. Poor thing. :-(
Personally, I think dog parks and beaches are a terrible idea. Some people do not invest the time to properly train their dogs. Some dogs, like people, are hard headed as hell and listen to no one! Once they are off their leads, there is no way to control them.
That is so sad. I took my dog to the dog park, once, saw what was going on, and never again. I can't even walk my dogs in my own neighborhood, because of loose dogs. I have 2 little shih tzus, and 2 bigger mixed dogs. I just build a dog pen in the back yard, and they do their business there. I can't imagine seeing my little ones attacked.
