Edgewater police chase: Armed suspects ditch vehicle

What started as an attempted routine traffic stop, quickly escalated into a potentially deadly situation for Chicago police, this afternoon.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., officers tried to stop a green Jeep Cherokee on the 5900 block of North Magnolia Avenue, near Magnolia and Thorndale in Edgewater.

Seconds into the brief high speed police car chase, the suspects in the offending vehicle ditched their car at 1355 West Thorndale. All three black male occupants fled the scene on foot.

Police recovered a handgun in an alley behind 5956 North Magnolia Avenue. The weapon belonged to one of the fleeing suspects, said police.

One of the three offenders was arrested at 1257 West Norwood, said one source.

Authorities are still looking for two more suspects.

No injuries were reported.

  1. OMG, this arrest was only a few houses from the alderman's. Man I hate these ghetto thugs!

  2. Not far from where I live either. Why do I get the feeling that it is going to be a long summer.

  3. Glad to hear that the thugs tossed the gun rather than let the bullet fly. Now, I fear that they will get a slap on the wrist from a clueless Judge instead of real jail time for what should be a serious weapons violation. If the alderman wants to keep guns off the streets, he should make sure that these guys with guns are off the streets.
