Shooting outside Uptown pizza place

A male victim was shot outside a North Side, Uptown neighborhood pizza place, said police.

At 2:19 a.m., 911 callers reported shots fired on the 1100 block of West Foster Avenue and on the 5100 block of North Broadway, near Lori’s Pizzeria and Liquors.

One report indicated a shooting victim was lying in a doorway at 5153 North Broadway.

Another report said a victim shot at 1142 West Foster Avenue.

After the shooting, eyewitnesses saw a small, dark gray car, possibly a 1990s Toyota Corolla, driving eastbound on Foster.

The vehicle was occupied by three black males and a short, heavy-set, black female.

Police said the female was driving the getaway car.

The shooting victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in unknown condition.

  3. I was in there late one night. Very nice people. They called me "Sir" and gave me an extra slice of pizza for free. That made me realize I was in the wrong area though.

  5. What was the age of "the kid"?

  6. 14. Got it. That's a kid. What's a kid doing out eating pizza at 2:44am? Causing trouble? Looking for trouble? Sad, but I guess he found it.

    1. He was 13 & sadly at the time it happened people are gonna think it was trouble he was looking. But no! That's the only place open that late at night. Crazy to think that other people that are to no good would just kill innocent ones. My prayers go to his family.

  7. He had no business being out at 2:44am. Was he with his parent(s)? Again, no reason for a death but who whas he with? Where was he going? Where was he coming from? These are legit questions.

I have a right to know because he fits the profile of those harrassing my ADULT self throughout this city at all hours of the day/night.

  8. ...right, so he was 13, not 14. Again, wtf is a 13yr old doing out at 2:45am hanging out at a pizza & liquor joint??? Please dont tell me grabbing some dinner! We all know that had he been home, where he belongs, he'd be alive. Mom.. Dad.. any adult want to step forward and take responsibility for throwing this kids life away? Yeah, didnt think so. Must be some nondescript, Uptown gentrifying white guys fault. I did it!!

  9. Correct.

And based on my experiences in that area, if this were an ad for an apartment for rent or "gut rehabbed" condo for sale, this location would have been advertised as "Andersonville" or "just steps to Andersonville and the lakefront".

  10. Uptown Update is really getting to the bottom of things, they identified the victim as a "teen"

    Hopefully nobody was offended...

  11. @Anon 2:19 - Now that "progressive". Hopefully, they'll put the weed and mushrooms away up there in "Uptown" and OPEN their eyes. I can't believe they didn't label him "just transient youth". Now that's "progress".

  12. First condolences to the family that lost their child. Second, I'm black and although its been about 25 years since I lived in Uptown I feel connected enough to weigh in. We as black parents have to stop blaming yuppies, police and everybody else for our failure to properly supervise our children. I don't give a darn if they were giving the pizza away, the kid should not have been out at this time. Lastly, know what your child is doing, where they are, who they associate with and spend time with your kids so I don't have to.

    Officer friendly.

  15. @6:26

Was anyone mad at him that might of wanted to shoot him? What about his older sister that he was with, was she in a gang or associated with gang members??

  16. The only reason his family members are crying is because they won't get a free car that he stole. This is deplorable. Mandatory birth control. It needs to be said.

  17. @6:26 Hey Big Brother... instead of wishing you had gone with him (to do what, shoot back?), how about wishing you had been a better role model / big brother so little man wouldnt have felt the need to emulate your fake tough guy ways and purport (thats means front) like he was a tried and true banger like his big brother. A lot of good that got him. Dead. Of all the people in your little brothers life, I suspect you, Big Brother, probably had one of the best opportunities to help steer him in the right direction. Seems you had better things to do. Big Siss wasnt much help either. Sorry, buy yall suck at life, and little man paid for it.

Its great the you are going to College. Really it is; but that almost, almost sounds like another of the tired tropes that gets thrown out every time something like this happens. 'he was a good kid' 'he wasnt in any gangs' 'he was a good student'.. all meant to somehow excuse or make up for the fact that yet again another young black or latino has succumb to gang violence. Are we to draw the conclusion that since you are attending college, that being derelict in your inherent responsibilities to your family and your little brother are excusable? Whom might we place the blame on here Big brother? Certainly someone is to blame, as this kind of situation was certainly avoidable. Pray tell. Again, if anyone in this world should have / could have helped save his life, someone calling himself a Big brother seems like the most logical place to start. College, job, life.. all the reasons / excuses you want to find wont fill the hole you were complicit in digging. Sorry man. You and your family failed your little brother. Now you get to carry that burden.

Affirmitive action should not apply to the UNDEAD!!

This is much more disruptive to the learning environment than saggy pants...

  24. I know Blanca Alanis & Julie Alanis. Blanca turned a Lady Raza on the North Side in Chicago she left Chicago for a while because she got knocked up. As for Julie she was out-casted from her sister Blanca gang & was told she doesnt want to be seen on Estes & Clark there for Julie Alanis decided to go to the Latin Kings for "security" so it wouldnt surprise me if it was because of Julie Alanis that her brother was killed plus the pictures of Ivan Alanis throwing gang signs all over the net doesnt help the situation. Maybe because of all this the news report Ivan Alanis had 2 gang ties....when every one who knows street knowledge know that its NEVER possible to be in 2 gangs.
