Police are investigating a brazen robbery on Chicago’s Near North Side.
At approximately 10:58 a.m., a black male believed to be in his teens, snatched a woman’s red iPhone on the 800 block of North Kingsbury Street, near Kingsbury and Chicago Avenue.
The crook was last seen wearing a black and white hooded sweatshirt with horizontal stripes, and blue sweatpants with yellow stripes.
After the robbery, the offender fled northbound on Cambridge Avenue to a group of mostly boarded up CHA row-houses; which I believe are a part of the Cabrini Green housing development.
Police called the stolen cell phone several times, and someone, presumably the suspect, answered and hung up.
The thief is still at large.

Damn that red iPhone looks sweet!
ReplyDeleteWell I was about to say what was the victim doing walking by the Cabrini Green row houses with her Apple toy in the first place. But, I had to remind myself that there are newly built condo's in that area between Chicago and Division so I assume she stays there or within the neighboring area. The suspect had no right to snatch her iPhone, HOWEVER, she is still DUMB for even having the device out by that place. Them row houses look like a f*cking zoo man, and awfully scary. Did she not hear about the recent muggings and quick-snatches of iPhone/iPad's in the entire Near North/ Lincoln Park area? Didn't some mini-mart owner was murdered in his own store by a possible resident for Cabrini Green? SMH!!!!
Red is one of my favorite colors.
ReplyDeleteSkokie, you're right. That punk had no right to take that woman's cell phone. However, a lot of people have what I call a "it'll never happen to me" attitude. By now, everyone in Chicago knows that thieves are targeting people with iPhones and iPads.
Unless it's an emergency, keep your phones out of sight.
Timothy, I agree! I'm a tech nerd myself with a bookbag full of gadgets on me most of the time and I know better when to pull a device out and when not to. If its not the shady crazies from Cabrini Green, then its future inmates from the South Side riding the Red Line downtown/up north to target potential victims. With the recent uphill percentage on muggings in the Near North area, the same chances of getting your iPhone snatched from you on 79th street is no different. Well... except you may get shot for it there!
ReplyDeleteWell I have lived over here for a couple of years now and I hate to say it but I am glad the projects are gone and they need to take the row houses with them(along with the two no good stores on Larrabee) I hope they catch the idot who did this. Like I tell my family it is and has changed over here but REMEMBER this is still the big city!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMr. Fitz! Welcome back. I was begging to fear you had fallen prey to some of the hoodlums you profile on your blog.
