Random police calls: 04/28/2011

Here are a few random police calls from Chicago's North Side.

12:16 a.m. -- A woman at Wendy's restaurant, 2053 West Lawrence Avenue, felt like she was being stalked. According to the 911 operator, the female complainant seemed confused.

12:22 a.m. -- Someone reported six black men fighting in the street at Halsted and Aldine. Police arrived at 12:24 a.m. There was no one there. At 12:39 a.m., a second 911 caller reported six men fighting near the corner of Halsted and Cornelia. Two of the suspects ran inside Hydrate at 3458 North Halsted Street, and the others ran southbound on Halsted, said a witness.

12:46 a.m. -- An assault in progress was reported at 3200 North Clark Street.The address belongs to Dunkin Donuts.

12:48 a.m. - A crowd involved in a disturbance at 904 West Belmont Avenue, was dispersed by police.

12:48 a.m. -- Someone reported a person with a knife at 1025 West Hollywood. Allegedly, an intoxicated woman with a weapon threatened a man inside a fourth floor apartment. Police were on the scene around 12:50 a.m.

12:51 a.m. --- Loud music reported at 6912 North Ashland.

12:53 a.m. -- A cabdriver said he was choked by a white man who refused to pay his fare. The alleged incident occurred at North Lake Shore Drive and West Roscoe Street. Police were on the scene at 1 a.m.

12:54 a.m. -- A man at the Dunkin Donuts at 3200 North Clark Street, said he was threatened by a black man. During my coverage, this was the second time police were called to that particular store.

12:55 a.m. -- Suspicious characters were seen loitering near 4633 North Winthrop. According to the 911 caller, two men were doing something questionable near a dumpster across the street. One of the suspects was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. At 1:01 a.m., police were questioning a suspect in the area. According to the suspect's ID, he does not live in Chicago.

1:04 a.m. -- A battery in progress was reported at 3933 North Clarendon. Two men were fighting in front of the building, said a 911 caller.

1:05 a.m. -- An alleged disturbance at 6606 North Western Avenue. The people on the second floor were reportedly making too much noise.

1:09 a.m. -- An alleged homeless man was reportedly sleeping in front of 2905 North Halsted Street.

1:29 a.m. -- A burglary in progress was reported at 5450 North Winthrop. The 911 caller said someone was trying to break into his apartment. As of 2:30 a.m., there was no indication this call was bona fide.

1:35 a.m. -- Someone spotted someone on the roof at Grein Funeral Directors, 2114 West Irving Park Road. At 1:42 a.m., officers checked the roof and declared no intruders were on the scene.

1:44 a.m. -- Loud music was reportedly coming from a seventh floor apartment at 5815 North Sheridan Road.

1:45 a.m. -- A man was purportedly struck by a car at George and Sheffield. As of 2:21 a.m., there was no indication an ambulance was called to the scene.

1:50 a.m. -- A truck caught fire at 2306 West Devon. Police blocked traffic at Devon and Bell, and Devon and Western. Traffic on Devon was restored around 2:04 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

1:59 a.m. -- A "large" fight was reported at Sherry's Bar, 5652 North Western Avenue. Police were on the scene around 2 a.m. The suspects were described as a group of men and women. One bar patron sustained a bump on the head, said authorities. The Latin King street gang may have been involved in the brawl, said one source.

2:14 a.m. -- A criminal trespass or a burglary in progress, was reported at 4646 North Greenview. A concerned citizen saw two men in dark-colored, hooded sweatshirts enter a garage at the aforementioned location. Then the suspects ducked into a church at Ashland and Leland, said the 911 caller.

  5. Timothy I agree with the ladies, I enjoy the police calls, I would love to see them posted daily. Thanks for your great work! A lesson from these posts to me is, best to be in your home by 1:00AM , being in bars in the wee hours , not so good!!
