  1. Random shooting? Gang related shooting? Innocent citizen? I wonder if ANY ONE can recall just 1 night without a shooting? ONE night without a robbery? ONE night without a mugging? What the hell is wrong with people? Is it something in the water? Maybe the air? Whatever it is, it's making our city stupid!

  2. So far, no one has discussed a motive or a suspect. It's very depressing to hear about someone walking down the street, in what's supposed to be a civilized society, being shot to death for apparently no reason.

  3. There seems to be far more crimes committed when it gets dark out..hard to give a description with the lowly street lights..Maybe we should consider NOT messing with the time change..That way, I'm not messed up for a couple week after it and the innocent citizens in the city have more time in daylight to do things without worrying about who's on the prowl!

  4. Apparently, daylight doesn't make a difference to some gunmen. People are shot in broad daylight in Chicago all the time.

In neighborhoods like Englewood, Austin and Uptown, daylight is not a deterrent.

I am starting to feel really good about my decision to leave Uptown.

  5. Well that's true but when it's dark out, it's harder to give a good description, don't ya think? I'm greatly concerned about this crap spilling over into Edgewater BUT our current alderman won't stand for it and I KNOWHarry Osterman won't put up with it when he gets in. A little bit of comfort for sure.
Where do you live now? How's your neighborhood? Any good deals on condo's???

  6. Of course it's harder to give an accurate description of a car or suspect in the dark. Gray looks like black, blue looks like black, and deep reds even appear darker. Hell, even a dark complexioned Hispanic person could be mistaken for an African-American in the dark.

By the way, someone from your neighborhood emailed me in response to the article I wrote entitled, "Gang Chases Couple into Edgewater Business". He wanted to inform me of a murder that took place near that location back in 2009.

towanda, I live on the Near North Side. I don't think there are ever any good deals around here. I have a friend who lives on Harbor Dr. I was looking at someone places in the area and found one I loved a few blocks north.

  7. I knew about that murder but I thought it was a little further north in the alley. I get so confused with all the crime and where it happens, I feel like I have dementia sometimes. I used to live on Bellevue for several years. I loved that area and still do. Great vibrancy around there. I was joking..we love our building and so far, the neighborhood. There is a lot of participation from the residents here, which is a good thing in helping to keep crime down..so far. Think about this, we are sandwiched in between Uptown & Rogers Park and have less crime. I really do think the Alderman have a part in that. Of course, with the way this city is turning into the Wild Wild West..that could change as well. I will not give up and do the "white flight" thing though, that's not how to solve the problems.

  8. Historically, Chatham, Avalon Park and Park Manor, are examples of Black Middle & Upper Class areas that didn't decline after White Flight.

Rudy you are absolutely right. But in the 80's, when crack started to burst onto the scene, all that started to change. I know several homeowners who moved out of Chatham when the crime started to spike and the drugs started to move in.

  11. Timothy,

Thanks for the Chatham update. Somehow, I thought crack bypassed Chatham.
