John Richard Shannon, Charged with Hate Crime, After Punching Man Because He Thought He Was Gay

John Richard Shannon hates gays. And he has a police record and a wounded arm, to prove it. Photo courtesy of NBC Florida news.

The (gentleman) doth protest too much, methinks.

20-year-old John Richard Shannon of Florida, reportedly wanted to enlist in the Army. Now he's posing for mug shots and modeling the latest prison wear.

On September 30, 2010, Shannon was in the bar of the Hotel Biba, located at 320 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, Florida; when he noticed a man that he thought was gay. After debating with the stranger over his sexual identity, Shannon allegedly announced, to anyone who could hear him, that he "hates faggots".

Then, to prove his point, Shannon showed the man his cast-covered arm and warned him that he was wearing a cast, because he had beaten up a "faggot".

When the mistakenly gay man wouldn't back down, and even defended his gay friends, with whom he was partying - Shannon flipped!

Witnesses say the 20-year-old would-be-soldier starting screaming and jumping up and down, like an agitated chimp. He threw such a hissy fit, hotel security escorted him out of the building.

Shortly, thereafter, Shannon returned to the bar, and sucker-punched the victim, with his hand that was already in a cast. The mistakenly gay man was knocked unconscious.

Shannon was identified by several witnesses, including one of his friends.

The I-hate-gays-sucker-puncher has been charged with a hate crime and is being held on a $25,000.00 bond.

  3. Shannon has every right to disagree with this filthy lifestyle. More people need to speak out and let these sinners know what they are doing is a shame before God!

  4. You can disagree without putting your hands on someone.

  5. Wow "God Fearing Man', shut the fuck up..please...you fucking hypocrite.

Doesn't the Bible mention that you should love all of God's children, no matter the difference. But yet you support such ignorant violence, sit your contradictory ass down somewhere and when you're a TRUE Christian, then you can speak up.

SMH, I guess this is what the churches preach nowadays, how to be a hypocritical, God-fearing, BIGOT.

  6. I never said I agreed with his violence. I agree with him not accepting homosexuality and speaking out against it. Gays are living a filthy lifestyle and need to be told what they are doing is wrong.

  7. Who are you to judge God Fearing Man???

    Are Ye without sing??

  8. Am I without sing? If you mean sin, no. We all have fallen short, but a Christian knows when to ask for forgiveness and change our ways. Something gays are not willing to do! Being gay is a sin before God. It is punishable by an eternity in a lake of fire.

  9. @ God Fearing Man...

You realize that harbouring ill-will towards gays will earn you an eternity in hell, right? Love thy brother, etc...

As a young gay man just coming to terms with my sexuality, I am amazed that you could make statements that could damage a young person searching for themselves. You should thank your pathetic excuse for a "loving god" that I (and hopefully most other readers of your hateful words) are stronger than you think.

Filthy, am I? Well, screw you. I am a person, and no amount of justification can make me believe you want the best for my soul, considering the words you use. You don't like us fags? Fool. Most gays are better human beings than you could ever aspire to be. I hope you enjoy a hell of your own making when you die.

I would have provided a counter argument here, but I am tired of justifying myself to people who refuse to understand that what I do is not "filthy," nor is it a "choice". It is time for us gays to be combative instead of taking it with a wimper and a nod.

For those of you LGBT folks out there who read this: you are strong, independent people (not that you didn't already know that!). Don't let anyone, gay or straight, tell you to live any kind of life you don't want to.
