At 1:07 p.m., Chicago police officers were called to 6328 S. Wolcott, after someone reported a large group of people fighting in the street. Before the officers could arrive, a second 911 call was received at 1:11 p.m. That call indicated the fight was domestic related, and some of the people involved in the melee, were armed with guns.
Police described the instigator of the brawl as a heavy set, African-American man, wearing a black shirt or a black vest. According to witnesses, he fled the scene eastbound from 63rd and Wolcott, and he was carrying a gun.
I’m not sure what the officers did to neutralize the situation, because at 1:27 pm, another wave of 911 calls hit dispatch.
A woman called 911 from 6328 S. Wolcott - in a panic. She said several men with guns, were trying to break into her second floor apartment. The 911 operator noted that children screaming and crying, could be heard in the background.
At 1:31 p.m., an officer on the scene stated the property at 6328 S. Wolcott had been destroyed and a little girl was hit in the head with a brick. The officer asked dispatch to contact the officers who initially responded to the scene.
According to dispatch, two police sergeants were on their way back to the Wolcott address.
An sergeant, on her way to the location, said she was there when the fight first started. The Sgt. claimed the residents at 6238 S. Wolcott told her they didn’t need the police, because they weren’t “snitches”.
