Gary M. Swiercz: Chicago Ridge fire official accused of Tinley Park attack, admitted to anger issues

Disgraced Chicago Ridge fire official, Gary Swiercz, gives a thumb-up in Facebook photo.

Nine days before 49-year-old Gary M. Swiercz, a Chicago Ridge deputy fire chief from Tinley Park, Illinois, allegedly tried to rape and murder his neighbor, he openly admitted to having anger issues.

On Saturday, January 5, 2013, around 2:35 a.m., Swiercz broke into a female neighbor's condo unit on the 8100 block of West 168th Place, said Tinley Park police.

According to various news reports, the 49-year-old deputy fire chief --- who was wearing a ski mask during the assault --- was armed with a knife, duct tape, an eight-inch dildo, and lubricant.

Investigators said Swiercz put his hand over the sleeping woman's mouth, as he pressed a 3-inch knife to her throat... when she  began to scream, he grabbed her by the hair and slammed her to the floor, several times.

Apparently realizing the victim wasn't going to stop fighting for her life, the suspect fled the scene.

Fitting the offender's description, Swiercz was arrested in the condo's parking lot.

Once charged with protecting the public, the Chicago Ridge deputy chief is now facing attempted murder, home invasion, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated attempted criminal sexual assault, and residential burglary charges.

Swiercz's family members, friends, and colleagues are urging the public not to jump to conclusions, but Chicago News Report found evidence that Swiercz has anger issues.

Nine days before the alleged attack occurred, the seemingly troubled man put his Facebook friends on notice:

"So, do we all dare to make a new years resolution?. I will try. I will try to be a more patient, understanding and compasionate [sic] person and maybe try a bit harder to tame my anger. I've been a bit on edge lately. Feel I owe it to all those who love me!!"

While the deputy's camp is rallying to his side, they might want to keep an eye on his son, too. We hear junior "likes to blow things up."

  1. It appears he broke his New Year's resolution and it sure didn't take long. I wonder how many friends he has on Facebook who are disappointed with him breaking his resolution by doing something so naughty. Regarding the circumstances of his arrest one would say he has many many issues, anger management only being one of them.

  6. What does pay for a public servant have to do with this mans crime???? Risking their life to save anothers and educating your children, a job that most would never consider because of the pay.

  10. Wow I dont see any white people on here defending this sick piece of shit. Or his big mamma, cousins, or siblings saying he was a good man. Amazing right?

  12. Leave the family alone, especially the children. Mental illness is heartbreaking. No doubt, this crime is horrible, especially for this poor woman and those who love her. Therapists see this as an illness before they see the crime. Stand back awhile and think of someone you think could be uncapable of doing something like this and then imagine you found out that he did.

  13. Who cares what therapists see this as! Most of them are hacks that have major issues themselves. No one is mentioning the children, what are you talking about? Get off your self righteous high horse. If it was one of my family members that did this I would be ashamed and embarrassed just as I should be. It was a crime period and it will be treated as such sorry!

  14. "Therapists" think every fucking criminal has a "mental illness," ignoring the fact that some people are just evil rotten assholes.

  15. Wow! So many opinions denegrating both the reporting and the subject being reported. To be certain, this is a horrible event. It is something awful for the victom here and something that will require so much to help her through. It is equally horrific that we have so many opinions here...so many of which are simply wrong, narrow minded and short sighted. This is not to defend the man accused, but do you really need to involve his family? Take your pot shots at the accused but his family should not be subject to your disdain.

  16. Curious. Given the investigating prowess of CNR, where in the world did they come up with "we hear junior like to blow things up?"

  17. This fat fuck should be placed in a car, dildo in his mouth and set on fire.

  18. Tpk is right. The media run to the family members and harrass them as if they were the criminals. Keep the family out of it? I agree with you, but watch, the innocent family will be dragged through this.
