A Chicago cop was filmed sleeping in a police van with the engine running, according to a video obtained by Chicago News Report.
The exact date of occurrence has yet to be determined.
However, according to what we've been told, the officer was parked near the intersection of West Lawrence and North Elston Avenues, in Chicago's North Side Mayfair neighborhood, when the incident was recorded.
In the 20-seconds-long video, the cameraman gets dangerously close to the officer's vehicle; walking right up to the driver's side widow.
For a brief second, you can see what appears to an officer leaning back in his seat, with his mouth wide open.
If the guy who took this footage had ill intentions, the cop's life would have been on the line.
I would rather have the police officer take a quick nap, rather than drive, fall asleep, and hit someone.
ReplyDeleteEvery driver should have enough sense to do this when tired. Sleep deprived drivers are one of the major reasons for fatal traffic accidents at night.
My Mother used to talk about the two people that would always sleep on their desk at her gubment job too. Try that in the private industry (or any other "real" job) and see how long you'd last.
ReplyDeletethis cop is in a load of trouble when his bosses find out.and you know they will when idiot rahm reads your website
ReplyDeleteThe wagon always has two guys in it. I'm willing to bet it was lunchtime break (30 min) and his partner was at the 24 hour xport gym getting a couple sets in. This smells like a non-story.
ReplyDeleteWorking nights sucks, hard to stay awake sometimes. a little cat nap isn't a big deal.
ReplyDeleteWhat's to say he wasn't on lunch and decided to eat in and take a quick nap?
ReplyDeleteI would rather have cops that we're paying a lot of money to protect us, be awake and doing their damn job, moron. Not acceptable. Wagon doesn't always have two guys in it either. where do you people come from and how can you assert incorrect facts as easily as you do?
ReplyDeleteIf you ever had to work midnights you know that it is impossible to keep your eyes open for 8.5 hrs straight. Humans are not designed for nocturnal life- police, firemen, er docs and nurses, etc. all have to take some time to recharge and rest during overnight shifts. Officers do get breaks for lunch and personals so who is to say they are not taking a break. When it comes to the police, the public is never happy- they hate them when they do their job, they hate them when they don't. I would be happy to have some officers parked in front of my house resting their eyes- I know I would sleep better.
ReplyDeleteI work ten hour shifts on night weekends its easy to stay up. Even if it was lunch why would you nap on a chicago street where anything can happen. If that cameraman who recorded was up to no good and had a weapon like everyone these days could have cause mischieve crime. Stay awake and do your job. To protect and to serve. that officer slipped up im sure he will pay his dues with his district you live n you learn. Suck it and do your job like we know you can
ReplyDeleteThere is a cop that always comes into the Cubs Green Lot parking lot in the morning, and sleeps for an hour or more. There are a lot of nooks in the lot where you can park undetected, b/c it has a concrete wall surrounding it from the street. I will grab some video of him next time I see him.
ReplyDeletethe concrete wall also makes it harder to see a hipster being beaten into submission
